Herkimer NY

Well Laurie and I left home 1:12 AM Tuesday September 25th on our trek to Vermont and arrived at our friends home in Orwell at 11:35 AM and the Montana performed perfectly as always. They live about 1 hour from nowhere, so there was no Internet service, no dsl, no cable, no dial up no nothin'. The phone company is in the basement of some one's house (so is the local bank). The leaf peeping was poor, little to no color change. We did visit all the local tourist traps and small towns like The Morgan Horse farm, Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory and the Cabot cheese factory and towns like Middlebury, Rutland, Burlington and did a lot of driving around the countryside. It's nice to see towns that take pride in their historic architecture and have restored the buildings and homes. We also went to see the Vermont symphony preform at a restored opera house, they were very good!!! We left Orwell October 3rd and arrived at the Herkimer KOA at about 2:30 PM. This is a very nice campground and I would give 2 thumbs up. Tomorrow we think we will stake our claim at the Herkimer diamond mine. Wish us luck.

Laurie and I went to Herkimer diamond mine but did not stake a claim like I had posted before, Instead we went through their museum then it was off to the Remington Arms museum both were nice but not impressive, then it was off to Alpin Haus to look at some new Montana's. Their lot was full of 2007/2008 Mountaineers, Montana's and Big Sky's. We looked around for a couple of hours in and out of all the Montana and BS and came away a little disappointed with the new models, some of the improvements I liked but it seemed like Keystone cheapened other areas to make them. I don't know maybe I'm being to critical. All in all I would still buy another. Any way will be leaving the Herkimer KOA Sunday morning and driving to Niagara Falls hope to be there by 1:00 PM so I can watch some football. It was a very pleasant stay at Herkimer and would come back as there is a ton of things to do and see here, we didn't even scratch the surface.

Yes, Northern Vt lived there for 2 years...it is beautiful country. Burlington has some nice entertainment activities by the lake.
We will have to keep Herkimer on our to do list...sounds nice. Driven by Alpine House several times running down I90.
Another neat place is Association Island up on the East end of Lake Ontario...
