Water front campgrounds

We are looking for a place on the beach to camp for a week. it could be the Florida gulf coast, Georgia coast, south Carolina coast, Alabama, etc. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here's a couple along the SC coast.

If you like a state park feel, Hunting Island State Park is nice and can accommodate large rigs on some sites. Be aware that due to nesting turtles, there are light restrictions after dark if you are on or near the oceanfront sites. Also, it is a long way from groceries and such if you will need to replenish your supplies while there.

If the more "resortish" type of CG is your style and you're interested in visiting the Myrtle Beach area, we have found Lakewood Resort to be a nice place to stay. I believe every site has full hookups and 20/30/50A electrical service. The sites are closer together than a state park. But the proximity to the ocean and the amenities outweigh the narrowness of the sites, IMHO. Anything you could possibly need or want is close by.

I looked into that "resort". There are pet restrictions. Therefore, they have lost our business.

Our very favorite place is Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach. Lot's to do in the area. It is right on the ocean. Here is their website

Thanks, Carol

Carol,
Were the pet restrictions at Lakewood?? We stay on average three weeks there every year with our Basenji (40 pounds of solid hyperactivity). We have never had a problem there, we do keep her on leash and ALWAYS clean up after also. I knew there were restrictions on pit bulls and other aggresive breeds. We have stayed at the three side by side CG's at Myrtle and personally prefer Lakewood over the others. We will be there two and a half weeks in July.

Check into Top Sail State park, Destin, Fl. The sites are not directly on the beach but this state park once was a private CG. The sites are very nice, cement level pads, sites with trees, sites on a small lake/pond. The walk to the beach is very plesant.

We like Fort Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach, FL. They have two campgrounds -- one on the beach and one on the river. There are lots of good restaurants in Fernandina, which is very near the park.

Gulf State Park, Gulf Shores, AL. Campsites are not directly on the beach, but the beach is within the park and not too far away. No pet restrictions other than the expected ones. Paved sites with full services including 50 amp power. www.alapark.com

You might take a look at St Andrews at Panama City. They have water front sites on the bay side and one of the nicest beaches on the gulf side that I have seen. Recommended sites for a Montana on the Bay side might be 108 and 112.
