Thanks to Dennis

One of the biggest regular amp draws for us was the 40"LCD tv. It not only drew a lot of amps when we were watching it, but enough when it was off that I put it on a switch to totally cut it off at night. Last winter at Q, Dennis (MudChief) mentioned that he'd replaced his TV with an LED tv and it drew a lot less amps. I replaced our's with a Samsung 40" EnergyStar LED tv and the difference was indeed significant. The new one draws half of what the old one drew when running and since my measuring devices only measure to a tenth of an amp the amp draw turned off doesn't even register.

LED is a huge difference. We moved a 42" Plasma downstairs and replaced the living room TV with a 60" LED. it was about 30 pounds lighter (no kidding). After remounting the plasma down stairs on a wall, and within reach, I was amazed at the heat coming from it. Heat equals amps.... Don't know the draw but it is definitely much more than the LED.

Yes, I didn't mention that, but the LCD also put off a lot of heat and weighed about twice what the new on does.

Wow! Shortly after we bought our Big Sky we replaced the factory TV with the one that we had in our stick house. We made the change because our TV had a better picture than the factory TV. We traded an LCD for our LED. Little did we know that there are far more advantages than just a better picture.

The led flat panel tv's are called that because they use high intensity leds for the light source for the lcd panel instead of cold cathode florescent tubes or other high wattage/current devices. Thought someone would want to know. John

Dick, glad you got got it installed. It will save you a lot of AMPS It sure did for us. It kept me from having to add another solar panel.
