Decals

The Montana decals on our 2007 3400RL are peeling off on the front cap. Is there anything I can apply to keep the edges from peeling any further?

Our 09 3400RL is at the Dealers right at this time having the decals replaced. We had both peeling and spider web cracks, specifically on the passengers side and front.

I don't think there is a good answer to the peeling decals, I see them peeling right on the dealers lot.

We've used a 3M decal product on antique tractor restorations that are 10 years old and have had no problem with discoloration, peeling or cracking over this period of time, so its hard to understand why these Monty decals fail within the first year.

For what it's worth, my decals are all still intact and look good. Seems someone is experimenting with adhesives and materials. Not sure I signed up for their R & D program. If and when mine fail I will go to a paint shop and have something painted on. Hopefully that won't be anytime soon.

Check with your local dealer, they can probably get new graphics for you at no cost but you will more than likely have to pay the labor to have them replaced. Burlington graphics is the manufacturer and you can "GOOGLE" them.

I've said this before and will say it again. Why replace graphics from the same company that the graphics are going bad from. Someone would really have to convince me that they will produce better results. On these later model Montanas '08's, '09's and later, I don't see why the decals are going bad. On 7=9 year old units it seems normal, but later models??????

I guess Phil and I are in the same program. The decals on our 06 3400 are not peeling or cracking. The only damage is that caused by tree branches and bug hits.

The ones on our unit look like they did when it was new. Must be the glue or ours must have came down the line during the right R&D period.

rich6506547,
Heat. Get yourself a heat gun and start heating the decal. Then you start pulling the graphic off. Heat and pull. That will get most of the decal off. Then a plastic scrapper. Also you need to remove the glue residue. I used something called 'goof Off' or something similar. Finally some alcohol. That should get everything off.

Good luck.

I have significant decal pealing on my 2002 3670RL but it takes a beating from the Sun sitting in storage in the sunny South, Georgia. I have begun removing the pealing ones and it doesn't look bad going without. Care is needed when removing and the best tool I have found is a scraper/decal remover the I bought at a NAPA store. Shaped much like a long handle screwdriver with a holder for a razor blade on the end it allows you to put the blade at a perfect angle for getting under the decal and scraping it off without doing damage to the sides of the unit. Spray a little "Goof Off" or "OOPS' on the area where the decal was and scrape again with the razor devise to remove the glue and you have a clean smooth area. Might be a little shadow where the decal was but not bad at all. Have a roll of paper towells handy for wiping off the razor when going for the glue. Having the older unit and not sure if I can find original graphics, I have had a business associate who operates a local graphics business make me a replacement "Montana" decal to replace the one I lost on the bedroom slide. He did an excellent job with matching the letter style and color. He told me the decal is made from a solvent based ink and has a UV protective laminate over the letters for protection from the Sun. Be glad to share his name with anyone, drop me a message.

We are picking up our new 2008 3500 Montana this afternoon. Yes, new because it's a leftover unit that didn't sell because of the poor economy.
Because I read the MOC every day, this post alerted me about decals . The dealer is putting the front peeling ones this AM. I'm glad we caught it before we head south with it.

Thanks to all you MOC's! Truly a great forum!
