toilet not filling properly

Our toilet quit filling properly. It will start with great pressure then drop to a trickle. There is good pressre to the toilet & B/room sink(same line). Do I need to replae the valve or the vacuum breaker. If it is the V/B what type of screw head is holdin the darn thing in there I tried 2 sizes of Sq drive,4 different hex,2flat, 2 phillips. I don't have a small mirror to see the head. Thanks 4 yer help Dave.

Are you lifting the foot pedal to fill? If you are just pressing the pedal you will only get enough water to flush as the flapper opens and drains into the tank.

Yes...we are lifting on the foot pedal...! We use to get great amounts of water when doing this. All of a sudden it stoped. Only a trickle, but behold the toilet fairys came last night and things seem to be working great. Would still appreciate any imput to the problem so we know what and how to fix. Thanks DandT
