I love Willy Nelson -- everytime we hit the road we play "On the road again" and sing along.......We'll check out Luckenbach.

We really enjoyed Carlsbad Caverns and Guadlaupe National Park. Today we arrived in fort Davis, TX and are in a lovely spot in Davis Mountains State Park.....what a find.....tomorrow we head to McDonald Obseratory and then off to Big Bend.....

Thanks to all for the great information.

It is not far from Austin down I35 to New Braunfels and canoing on the Guadalupe River. Krause's Restaurant in downtown New Braunfels is a bit famous for it's German food. There is a scenic drive in that area Called Devil's Backbone. Wimberly, San Marcos, New Braunfels, and Canyon Lake all have points of interest. In that area you will find Natural Bridge Caverns, smaller than Carlsbad, but there are more "live" formations in the caverns.

Some years ago, I took a bicycle vacation from Dripping Springs to Wimberly, San Marcos, Seguin, back to San Marcos, Bastrop, La Grange and on to Houston. It was a great week.

Hope you enjoyed Ft. Davis. We found it a very interesting tour. And the scenic loop drive was beautiful. Also the observatory was very interesting.

There's also a Camping World in New Braunfels, right on I-35, west side.

Fredericksburg is one of our very favorite places to visit. Three times so far.

We had an interesting 4 days in Big Bend......SO remote............ SO remote.........So remote...............

We drove 7+ hours today (which we promised we would never do - HA HA) and arrived after dark (which we promised we would never do - HA HA)in Miller Creek RV Park in Johnson City, TX -- we assumed that the RV parks would be empty Thanksgiving week -----WRONG!!! We would have though people visited with family on Thanksgiving -- we'll the State Parks have been booked for a month - not sure what everyone is doing but we are lucky to have found spot about half an hour from David's brother's place.

We drove through Fredricksburg at twilight on route to the park and will visit there tomorrow in addition to the Johnson sites.

We absolutely loved the Davis Mountain State park!!!!! The McDonald Observatory was a real treat!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!!!!

Y'all are having to much fun while I sit in the house after having construction modifications done, waiting on my next trip.

Two weeks ago we were at the River Valley Campground (rioraft.com) and Passport-America friendly. It's right on the Guadalupe River, and the River Road runs from there on down to New Braunfels. Many RV parks along River Road, but I'm not sure the Hanna would make some of the turns. Would be tight, but would definitely have to swing wide and crowd
the other side. Not much traffic this time of year. The River Valley Campground is close to Canyon Lake and the Dam. Also, if you are military, the Randolf AFB Rec Area is off of 306 going to Canyon lake, Along with the Fort Sam Houston Rec Area.

You are also close to the Blanco River State Park in Blanco, TX. Stayed there 20 years ago and recently went back to look the area over. We will be going there again this coming year. Camping is $20 a night with 7th night free if you stay that long.

Good traveling, y'all.

Semper Fi!

Jo anna,

How long are you guys staying in the area? We would love to meet up with you if you have the time. We are about 6 minutes from Dripping Spirngs. If you PM us we will give you are phone number.

We just stayed in Blanco State Park which was an wonderful treasure that probably is missed by lots of people. It was full for the weekend, but emptied out on Sunday afternoon.
