Denver, CO north side
Need a name of a good campground on the north side of Denver, particularly near Aurora.

Myrna,
I live in the Denver area but it's funny, you never camp close to where you live, or very often. I could give you advise on the south side but not north or east. If you come up with a name let me know and I'll tell you if I've heard anything about it.

Myrna ... we stayed at the Dakota Ridge RV Park in Golden. We stayed there about 2-1/2 years ago so I'm sure there have been some updates since then, but it's a very nice park and a good location.

Myrna and Bob, there's a Camping World in that area around Golden and Aurora. I think it's in Aurora. Can't remember for sure but it's close.

Thanks, I will check it out. Sometimes Camping World is attached to an RV park.

If you visualize a clock face, Golden is at 10:00 o'clock, and Aurora is roughly at 3:00, and is a pretty good sized city in it's own right. Probably 20+ miles between the two, depending, although both are suburbs of Denver. I believe Cherry Creek Reservior has camping, but not sure of the facilities. That might be a little closer to where you are going. BTW, Camping World is in Golden, at 38th & Youngfield, and there is no camping there. Dakota Ridge is close by Camping World, but of course I haven't stayed there, since I live in Denver. If you know exactly where you need to be, maybe I can pinpoint something for you.
Luck!

Thanks Scattershot.. my cousing lives in Brighton actually. So anything close to there or within reason. They haven't done any camping in the area or had anybody stop that camps. I have been to their place when driving a car and I wouldn't even attempt to pull the Monty in there. Otherwise we would park at the curb for the night.

Myrna,
Yeah Golden is quie a drive from Aurora or Brighton, clear across town and depending on the time of day that can take an hour or more.

We avoid the main part of Denver if possible.. the new toll freeway is a good route but it sure is expensive. We will probably try the state routes to get around the city.

You might try going around the west side. If you are coming up I-25, get off at the Sedalia/Littleton exit in Castle Rock (US85) and connect to C-470 around the west side of the metro area. A little longer, maybe, but not much, and it's free. That is, if you don't stop at the factory outlet stores in C.R.

Thanks scattershot, we will keep that in mind. Bob is working on our routing now, so I will pass that along.

I was thinking Arvada rather than Aurora. My mistake. Looking at the map, Brighton is definitely on the other side of Denver from Golden. I still recommend Dakota Ridge for anyone in the Golden area but it looks to be a bit far for your purposes, Myrna and Bob. Sorry.

I saw your post and asked my brother who lives in Aurora. He mentioned this one: http://www.coloradodirectory.com/denvermeadows/
I can't vouch for it but it looks OK from the web site. I 225 is pretty close so there would probably be traffic noise. Colfax is a main artery too. One good thing is that the prevailing winds are toward the southeast, so that might lessen the sound some. Maybe it would work out for you.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We think we will try and go to Barr Lake RV Park near Brighton. If anyone has stayed there, would appreciate your input. Didn't find anything on the campground reviews.

Myrna, I can't help you much. I've driven by it hundreds of times - but that doesn't help any does it? I'd just mention that it is about one block off of I76, which is really busy. It always has many units in it and it appears they might place the short term people closer to the interstate.
We'll be driving by it tomorrow on a day trip to Nebraska. Will most likely be dark both coming and going for us so I probably could not get a picture for you.
I'm sorry I'm not much help. If time permits and someone is in the office there, I'll see if I can get more info tomorrow.

Thanks Russ, they do have a good web page. If you see any glaring problems let us know.
