backsplash
After going to the Rv show and seeing all the new 5ers and my buddies new Grand designs 5th, me and my wife love the Backsplash behind the stove so my wife decided to do what Montana didn't and make one, we went to Lowe's Hardware and bought 11.5 x11.5 Glass tile used adhesive to put them on the wallpaper then grouted them(unsanded) moved the outlet out a little and BAM! looks ALOT better than plain wallpaper,Total cost including tools 150.00.. my wife did a great job!

Looks great and maybe Montana will read and see this thread and come out and surprise us at the Fall Rally with tiled backsplashes. Nice job and I presume you used the acrylic(sp)caulk. They used it on our kitchen floor in the S&B and it really turned out nice!

It looks nice, but I doubt Montana would ever consider adding something like this for a couple reasons. The primary reason is time it would add to assembly. For those who have never tiled, you are supposed to let the tile stand for 24 hours before grouting. Another reason would be durability. I'm not sure how well this will hold up to potholes. A more minor reason is weight. Tile, glass or ceramic add considerable weight, and while just a backsplash isn't a lot, it still ads up, and one of Montana's selling points is low weight for it's size.
Having stated all that, there are veneer substitutes that could be used without the draw backs mentioned above that would look as good and be much easier to install.

What a deal, you have a talented wife whom you have trained well and you just get to sit back and brag about the job...Life cannot get better than that.
Nice job Jim's wife, I considered doing the same type of thing but was concerned about movement and we actually have a nice back splash at the back only behind the stove, not on the side, kind of dumb but Keystone do not do what one would expect most times.
What's next, have you put that register in the bathroom walkway area yet?

Looks great, did you apply adhesive to wall paper or did you attach some type of thin wall board, before tile.

Thanx gang! yeah we did think about what will happen when we are going down the road with the flexing ,will it crack?? fall off??? we did use the 11x11 sheets with netting on the back holding all the liitle glass tiles on because that would be more secure than the 3x3 small tiles, we will find out and keep everybody informed ,I guess we will be Guinea pigs on this one,we did prep the wallpaper by sanding it to rough it up so the adhesive will grip good and it seems really solid and tight ,we are heading out for a month long trip soon so we will find out  ..by the way you are right Tom it would be too labor intensive for Montana to do it I think that is why other mfg just put up a sheet of colored aluminum, cooper etc... but what the heck we are retired and got time on our hands, if this works my wife will go nuts and do the bathroom too!

Nice Job James!! you beat us to the punch! have you had any problems with tiles falling off or cracking when traveling??? we will do the bathroom like you when we find out if it is durable or not

Great job!!! Looks wonderful!!! I understand why Keystone doesn't put up a glass/tile backsplash(weight and all that) but I don't know why they use wallpaper. When the stove area gets warm the adhesive on the wallpaper tends to let go of the wallpaper! The other problem is that if you actually cook on your stove wallpaper is not easy to clean since it is ...well...PAPER!
I wish they would come up with something that is easy to clean but looks really nice! I do love the glass tiles! HINT!

You would think they would do at least what other mfg's do and put stamped metal sheets or something decent looking besides plain wallpaper, I guess they figure whatta expect for "only" 58k

I didn't get elaborate like Jimmy, but I did put plastic clear sheeting on the walls in the kitchen. Makes it easy to clean but yet still looks respectable.

we have not had any problems with them and we just got back from a coast to coast trip they still up and look great the DW loves them and she said that the floor and the walls are the best mod I did all the other mods she thing that we could have done with out hahahahahaha

Thanx James ,I thought they would be O.K. they are up there pretty solid ,I think it helps that they are full sheets with netting on the back helps not a bunch of little 3x3 tiles,we will go ahead and do the bathroom too
