Preventive Maintenance

This may be old news to some but I just noticed some wear and fraying of the edges on all three slides. In one case, a hole appeared right on the edge and had I not found it there would have been a mighty leak. Just as a heads up, it wouldn't hurt to check the slide roofs periodically for any possible abnormal wearing. I took care of my problem by running a short piece of Eternabond tape along the edge of the slide roof and then sealed it down tight by rubbing it thoroughly so that the tape stuck good.

Thanks Orv. I'll add that to my next trip check list. Last trip was U-bolt and lug nut torque.

Also, great sig pic, Dave. Did you use a tripod and a digital SLR?

Orv,
Would this be the tape that is on the slide roof next to the outer wall?
If so when we were at Fox RV this fall having slide toppers replaced I noticed that the tape had lifted in a couple of spots.
I asked and he said that it was OK as the only purpose of the tape was to cover the sealant that is applied to the seam so they can install the slide without waiting for the sealant to dry.
That is the story I was told and just wanted to pass it on.
Happy Thanksgiving

Thanks for the heads up. Still worth checking.

Sven-- Go to the Eternabond website and check out their video on installing the tape on the slides. According to the video there is no sealant put down on the seam except for the actual sealant that is put down on the cover itself. The Eternabond is there for a purpose and that is to seal that seam. I've got to replace all of mine on two of my slides before our trip to Q so I have to get busy on that project.
Thanks Orv for the heads up and the reminder. Also while at the Fall Rally the service tech that came around to our Monte told me I needed to caulk several places I had not even throught of looking on the slides. The caulk had dried out and there are open areas just waiting for a good rain storm to come up while on the road! Luckily it is sitting inside the Monte Home at the present time and no moisture can get to it!

Absolutely correct, that tape serves a purpose.

Didn't mean to sound like I was correcting you or your dealer Sven but since I have the problem I have been doing a lot of research on the subject of the Eternabond tape and will be starting my project, hopefully, within the next week IF I can get enough Eternabond to redo all three slides. Just want to be safe all the way around. I'd like to find out more about the NEW slide covers also that are not on rollers like the ones most of our MOC family have. I saw it somewhere while surfing the net and can't remember where it was. It was more like a complete cover that actually stuck to the top of the slides rather than rolled up as the slides went in and out. It was like a complete cover of Eternabond over the whole top of the slides. If I find it I'll relay it here on the forum!

It appears to me to be the same tape. I buy mine here.

Thanks Orv! I bookmarked that sit. Hopefully it will be a year or two before I need it, but who knows.
