Montanas and hydraulic motorcycle lift

We are considering moving up to a Montana from an Artic Fox tow behind. We have the tow behind so we can carry a dual sport or road bike in the pick-up. Have any Montana owners figured out how to install a hydraulic motorcycle lift to the rear of their Montana? Once we figure this out, the scale will quickly tip toward a new rig! Thanks for your help.

Buy the Montana, but forget the weight on the back, unless it is around 250# or less. A motorcycle would be Just too much for the Monte, the way it is designed with it's frame.
Some owners have a trailer towed behind, this seems to work for them. Maybe they will help you with some ideas.
Welcome to the Forum Susan.

I have made arrangements to have a hitch made for our Mountaineer this summer. I saw a local guy with a Montana towing his quads and I followed him home to get a look at his hitch. I will be taking our trailer to the same shop.

Ozz, thank you for sharing the pics of your bike rack hitch.

The one I plan on having built will go from frame to frame in three places ( about two feet apart) with a drawbar/receiver mounted up the center. It will be about 4' long to spread the load down the frame. By doing it this way the enclosed underbelly will only get some minor trimming.

Dont much believe I would hang much of a motorcycle off the rear of your trailer---check out swivelwheel.com, they make a neat option down there in Katy, Texas.

I would not hang a harley off the rear, but a dual sport bike wiehgts between 200 and 260 lbs. I know it will void your warrenty, but you got to do what you got to do. I did it off my old Seirra 26' 5ver, for 10 years and never suffered any ill effects to the frame. Just need to be sure you have enough hitch weight, and you don't over load your tires

Seems to me that not long ago there was quite a discussion here about voiding the Montana warranty by adding hitches, carriers, etc. & putting more than 250 pounds back there. Something about the frame not being designed for the additional weight, plus the stress of whatever is back there bouncing up & down. Someone may recall some specifics, but I would think one of those hydraulic lifts would be more than 250 pounds just by itself. I know when we bought our unit we asked about a rear hitch & were told it could be done as long as the 250 pound weight limit wasn't exceeded. Mike
