Under Bed Storage - redux

Kathy wanted more storage under the bed, so after thinking about it for a while, I came up with this:

I used 20 gauge sheet metal and all told, I added 55 pounds to the bed frame. I did reinforce the frame with hardwood stiles and large angle brackets at the foot of the bed to make sure it stays square.

While helping me, Kathy stepped on the center-left well and it held her with no problems.

Michael, once again you did a good job. I have been wondering how to protect the stuff we put under there. Looks like I will be bending some sheet metal.

We're curious. What's the machine with the tubing going through the wall?
We also have a Big Sky but don't recall seeing this in ours.
Nice work!

The hoses and pump are for a Comfortaire air adjustable bed - like Sleep Comfort.

Our Sleep Comfort bed is in storage. It's a California King, which I think is narrower than a standard King but is longer and thus won't allow the slide to close.

I don't have the equipment nor skill to do the sheet metal thing although I think it is a great idea. So, all our offseason clothing are in space bags and stored in that same area. The space bags both reduce the space needed, allowing for more to be stored in the same space, and also protect the clothing should there be a serious hydraulic leak.

Excellent job, Michael.

i dont understand the storage issue. on our 2011 montana 323rl the queen slide out. under the bed i store a full size futon mattress. a couple sleeping bags. extra bedding sheets. is there that much difference in the other models that there isnt that much storage under the bed, im very pleased with our under bed storage.

You are looking at a thread that was written in 2009. Maybe things have changed since then.
