Winterization Problem

I was trying to winterize the Monte this afternoon. I put a hose on the winterizing inlet and put it in a gallon RV Antifreeze bottle. Turned the winterizing valve to on. Turned on the pump. Opened faucets and the no flow. I finally put a funnel in the hose and lifted it up high and poured anti-freeze into it. The pump would pull but when I put the hose back in the bottle it wouldn't draw. Pump ran the whole time. I checked the fittings behind the service center and everything was tight. I noticed a check valved in the inlet. I took it out and tried sucking on it. It took a lot of force to draw air into it. RV antifreeze seemed to come out at the connection point and I had it all over the convenience center floor. I am going to the hardware store to get a fitting and some hose to connect where the inlet was at and try again to see if I can get it to draw. Anyone else have this issue?

Try putting a second hose washer on top of the original in the convenience center before you hook up the suction hose.

I have had occasional problem getting my pump to suck the antifreeze from the jug. It was due to the hose connection not completely sealing and letting it suck air. Least bit of air leak and it will not suck liquid. The washer with the screen filter on mine was too thick to allow me to get it good and tight. I replaced it with a thinner standard rubber washer and it solved the problem.
I also set the jug near the level of the connection so it does not have to lift the liquid so high.
On occasion I have had to open a low point drain valve to get suction started.

I looked at the inlet and found there was no washer. I can't believe they didn't install one at the factory or dealership. I found the washers in a bag with the user manual. Put the washer in and it works great. Thanks guys you saved me a trip the hardware store and cost of buying parts I didn't need. Next year will be a lot smoother.

Would definitely do the South Texas method if grandma would leave before grandkids Christmas (Winter) Concerts. Thought about leaving without her, but cost of divorce would be prohibitive. She is getting better though as now we don't have to wait until after Christmas, just until concerts are done.
