T.Y. for the link to the murals. I may look into one of those. No way I will put Montana back on. They are mostly off now
after a LOT of work. Still a ways to go.
Originally I was going to go for replacements untill after folks a year ahead of me were already having problems with the replacements.

finally finished mine today what a pain took about 6 hours to remove sand and buff. They use the cheapest tape they can buy that's why they are so hard to remove. If it was a good quality vinyl we wouldn't be removing decals off a 2011 already. Mine will definetly not say MONTANA and if I put anything up there it will be on a high quality vinyl. On a side note you would think its free advertising for montana why not use the best vinyl you can get ? after making the repairs from the fire we had I'm not impressed with there workmanship.

One of the reasons, believe it or not, that we even pursued the purchase of our older Montana, was that the graphics were still in very good condition. Maybe a little fading but no cracking or peeling. I'm confident they are original and maybe it's reflective of the care or lack of use of the rig, but we're planning on full timing here in a few months so it will be on the road and in the sun a lot. We will probably be faced with graphic replacement at some point in time if we keep this rig so I would like to know how replacements are holding up after some weathering.

Paul - there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Many had peeling decals within 2-3 years. I mine started after 6 years (on my 2007) and I replaced them last year. Mine stays in covered, but not enclosed, storage. Another 3075RL (2008 model I think as his decals are very slightly different) showed up in the same storage a few months after mine. And his decals still look new. No explaining it.

How did you remove the glue left from the decals. I have tried using a heat gun and plastic putty knife but not much luck.

We had out 2006 3400 Montana from May 2005 to June 2012. It was never under cover it was used hard in all parts of the country. The graphics held up well for 5 years then literally peeled off the RV. Keystone provided replacement decals that they had for that year.

The graphics are installed at the factory on the assembly line in not a clean or temperature controled environment. Burlington graphics provided the decals for many years but a change of vendors was made a couple of year ago that was supposed to improve quality.

It is my thought that the conditions that they are installed at the factory has a lot to do with the decal failure.

A graphic shop in our home area said the OEM graphics on our 06 3400 were not cheap and designed to last 5 to 7 years which they did.

I used Goo Gone and some elbow grease.

Get a can of 3M Adhesive Remover. I got it at an O'Reilly Auto Parts store. It basically melts the adhesive. The can has a squirt tip. I would hold the tip against the trailer just above the adhesive and drag it across while gently squeezing the can and holding an old towel below to catch the run down. That allowed the liquid to "sheet" down over the adhesive. With the towel thoroughly soaked I would just wipe away the adhesive. The wetter the towel the easier it came off.

On a side note: If you read the open roads forum on rv.net you will eventually see that it is not just Montana. Graphics/decal complaints pop up on just about every trailer brand, and even motor home, from time to time.

Back in 2010 when we had the front "Montana" letters on our 2007 peeling we were pleased that Burlington??? sent new graphics and in the box was a can of lacquer thinner and a plastic scraper. Now we never got a chance to try this difficult task as we traded the rig shortly after and gave the dealer the new graphics to install.

If I was using the lacquer thinner I certainly would want to be very careful not to get it on anything else. It's dangerous stuff in my hands and almost anything could happen.

rubber gloves mineral spirits and a single edge razor blade . wet the surface good use the blade just like ur shaving be very careful not to gouge. wet sand with 600 then 1000 then 1500 then 2000 the finer you go the easier to buff. mine had a lot of fade so I worked it over pretty good with the 600. Mine looks brand new. its the main reason I like fiberglass its a piece of cake to sand and buff.

Oceandansar, this might be a dumb question, but did you sand by hand or with an electric buffer? The reason I ask is that I have a concern that I might wreck the fibre glass finish with an orbital buffer.

wet sand by hand with a rubber block. The key to buffing fiberglass is to keep your buffer moving if you stay in one place to long you get heat buildup and can melt the gel coat. I really like to buff with a watery mix of compound it makes a mess but I wear an apron. I have been doing it my entire life and you can take something that looks horrific and make it look new again. Being in the autobody business I am quite anal with keeping everything looking new.

Just did a cleanup of my 2013 (late) 3100RL and noticed the front "Montana" letters are starting to curl on the edges. All others seem OK. Anyone else of that year seeing a similar issue?

If it is like earlier models, once it starts it will be a slow progression over a couple years to major peeling. And trimming the curled edges does nothing to stop it.

You might start taking pictures and contacting Keystone and hoping replacdments are still available. If nothing else, an automotive vinyl wrap and sign shop can use your picture to make a replacdment.
