Mattress question 2015 Big Skys
We have a 2014 Big Sky with the standard mattress. We want to upgrade to a better one. I noticed the Keystone website lists two different mattresses. One is the "Big Sky Gel Top" mattress. The other mattress in the Premium Option is the Denver memory foam mattress.
Any owners out there have any experience with the quality of either mattress? I know it's a subjective question, but all opinions are appreciated.
Other than that, we're really happy with our Big Sky and meeting new Montana owners here and on the road.
Happy camping!
Dave

After suffering through two different OEM mattresses in our previous rigs (even with memory foam toppers), this time we got smart and told them to keep the mattress and had the dealer install a Sleep Number mattress. We are so pleased with the mattress that we are getting ready to order the same (RV) mattress for our bed at the house. Not an endorsement, but definitely happy with our selection.

You might won't to look at a natural latex foam mattress or a 4 inch topper. Natural latex is very dense and heavy and at the same time soft. And because it is dense it's very supportive. After sleeping on it I wouldn't sleep on any theng else.

We told the dealer to keep their mattress and we went out and bought a Serta queen to put in there. The company we bought it from even installed it for us as long as we brought it to the store parking lot. Not a problem! We even tried to put the mattress topper but found out it was to soft then so it went under the mattress to give us a little more insulation from the cold air that MIGHT be there from the slide being out. I don't remember the exact number or name of the Serta but it was not a pillow top. We really like it and we both sleep like babies on it!

Our original mattress in our 2014 was HIDEOUS. So we bought a new memory foam mattress from ParkLane mattress company. They make specialty mattresses for RV's. http://www.parklanervmattresses.com/ You order right from the website, and they delivery it to your house or location. We love our new mattress. We have a memory foam in the stick and brick as well.

Ours came with the Denver memory foam mattress. It's quite comfortable, though a little softer than I prefer. We full-time and have been sleeping on it for 7 1/2 months.

Choosing a mattress is kinda like Goldilocks and the Three Bears...we want one that is "just right."
Appreciate the comments, though. Saw the Denver mattress being sold through Lippert on Youtube at a large RV rally in Arizona. It looked like an option because it comes to your home compressed and rolled up. However, it did look a little soft when a customer and others sat on it.
I'll look into the latex topper and the Sleep Number and a couple others that have been suggested.
I did a quick test of one in a regular Monty and I believe it is called a "iRelax" model. It felt firm enough, too.
RV mattresses, of course, can't be too heavy for the gas shocks to lift the bed up to access storage underneath. I'll keep that in mind.

When we first got our Monty we thought the mattress was head and shoulders above anything we had in our previous 2 TTs, but after sleeping on it for 3 months straight, we ordered a sleep number on our way home. That sleep number has been moved from our Monty to our SOB and will get moved again in the next week or so. Really nice to be able to adjust each side to individual taste.

We threw the factory mattress in a dumpster and replaced it with a Sleep Number Bed. The factory mattresses are junk. We really love our Sleep Number a lot.

Dave good idea. Shop around get what is best for you. You are right the latex is too heavy for the gas shocks to support. You will haft to support the bed when it's up. There is an online video you might won't to see, mattress education. net. I have not seen it so I can't vouch do it but it might be worthwhile.

We junked the OEM mattress right away. We replaced it with a memory foam and love it. Did the same thing with our previous unit.

I just replaced my oem mattress. I got mine from mattress insider. I am very happy with it. I can access my storage under the bed no problem the struts hold it open. It is a great RV mattress. I got a custom made memory foam king 75 X 80 x 8. They have a money back guaranty. If you don't like it they will give you 100% refund. All you have to do is donate the mattress to a charity and send them the donation ticket and they will send you your refund but not for custom made sizes. This is the mattress I got in a custom made size.

There may be a Catch 22 to that donation. When we changed mattress we tried to donate our old mattress, but couldn't find anyone to take it. With all the Bed Bug issues seems no place wants a used mattress. You might have better luck, but we sure didn't.

I didn't know that. Good point. The mattress I ordered from them was a custom size so wasn't worried about the guaranty because I knew I couldn't return it anyway. I would definitely bring that issue up to them and get conformation about the guaranty before you order.
Their customer service is great. I had an issue with the sheets. Since my mattress was a custom size I also ordered a set of the 1000 TC Egyptian cotton sheets to fit the mattress from them. The problem was that they had a new employee in the factory (the sheet factory is in India)that was making the wrong size sheets. They kept sending me regular king size sheet 72 x 80. My mattress is 75 x 80. They sent me 2 sets of sheets before they found out what the problem was. The 3rd set was the correct size.Yes it was a PITA but their customer service handled it with no problem. I didn't have to argue or complain at all. They handle it all with the factory manager. I am very pleased with the mattress, sheets and customer service. This was my experience with them and I am just trying to help out.
I did a lot of research and went to several stores looking at mattresses before I made my purchase. I am not a full timer so my needs might be a lot different. I did not want a residential mattress because the weight would make it very difficult to access my storage under the bed. That's what happened to my friends who did. I am 250 lbs and the 5 layer memory foam mattress I got is the perfect density for me. I can get on the mattress with my knees and cannot feel the board underneath at all. It works well for me.
