Too much HEAT in the bedroom

We were roasting from too much heat coming up in the bedroom register so our dealer service department tried to cut down the amount by installing baffles but that problem still isn’t solved. In order to turn the heat up enough to make it comfortable in the living area there is just too much heat (about 75%) going to the bedroom.
Has anyone solved this problem by using a heat register vent that can be adjusted in the bedroom? If we shut off the heat going in the bedroom will it affect the air flow from the furnace?

We also spent part of our 3 day 2nd trip out trying to get the remote control to operate the furnace properly. We know that learning how to run a remote can be challenging for some at our age but I thought with one of us reading and the other doing we wouldn’t be so flustered. We did everything as per instructed and set the auto for 68°. When the room went down to 63° and the furnace still wouldn’t kick on I don’t think it is operator error. We are about ready to contact the dealer and ask for another option.

We close off our bedroom vents by setting something over them. Our furnace doesn't have the remote control so I can't help there.

I found your post interesting in that you too have an 06 but have the remote Thermo. I have an 06 3400RL and had the same problem. What so far works for me is I set the Thermo to 68 degrees (although I have the CCC not the remote), I close the bedroom door and I have an airflow director on the bedroom vent pointing to the door. 2 of my 3 roof vents in the bedroom are open 1". Now the bedroom is some what cooler during the day but by night it's acceptable and during night its get warmer which DW likes and I just remove a cover.

Now it's not perfect but I too went through what you are talking about, bedroom 100 degrees and rest of unit 60 degrees (exageration of course).

One thing i forgot to mention is that I also removed the vent covers in the non-bedroom half of the unit and vacummed out the vents and removed some debris.

Hope this helps

Linda-

Glad to hear from you and that everything has worked out. We solved the heat problem in the BR by buying an adjustable louvered floor vent from a local hardware store (Lowe's). If you have Home Depot in your area they should also carry a line of floor vents that will fit in the Monty.

On the other hand before we did that we were not getting enough air flow through out the trailer and found that the duct had come loose from the heater. Their installation was very poor, you might want to pull the four screws holding the access door to the heater and take a look in there and see how well connected yours is.

Our 2005 2955rl will cook you in the bedroom. Went to Menards and found an adjustable floor vent ($3.00). Took two minutes to install and we can set the heat flow so the bedroom is just right for sleeping and the rear of the coach is nice and warm for relaxing.

We have a 2006 Montana 2980RLS and have used it 3 times with the same results with the remote thermostat. We found that to use the "I feel" mode for the furnace regulates the heating the best. Place the transmitter in line of sight to the receiver. Choosing the button on the receiver is suppose to default to 68 but wouldn't. Just using the temperature setting, we had to run it to 75 to get it to come on, then it would heat to that temperature, go off and not come back on. I feel there should be a recall on these thermostats.

Souldn't go to bed with the heater on. it will dry you out. we only turn ours on to brake the chill, and when G takes her shower.

Most of our camping is during the summer months, but at the edges fo the season, we run into the same problem. I recently saw magnetic louver covers that stick to the vents. I wonder if they would do a good job at blocking most of the airflow if I just leave 1 or 2 slats of the vent open and close off the rest. I'm not too keen on using the adjustable louvers because I don't want anything sticking up from the floor, especially on the vent near the foot of the bed.
It'll have to wait until next year to try it out, though.

As others have said, I just went to Home Depot and purchase a nice gold vent that will shut off and it was cheap.

I was also born and raised in Seattle but now live in Ephrata. I worked at the NAPA store in Carnation up until about 2 years ago.

Happy Camping,

Boy a lot of post to respond to today..We had the same problem with heat in our Terry TT.Those adjustable covers at Home depot or where ever will solve most if not all of the problem for very little $. A/C was the same thing..two vents in the ceiling blew right on the bed you would freeze your butt off.Directional covers solved that problem .It ought to be a law that the folks that design thse things spend one week in them in hot and cold weather....

The magnetic covers are available from Camping World. You can cover the amount of the vent you want easily to divert the air to another area. They are good as you can just pick them up and put them on a different vent if your needs change.
