RV Insurance

I would like to get some feed back on insurance companies for RV's. I got lucky and was a little pissed off at my auto provider when I added my 353RL to the policy only to find out it was only covered while towing, would have been nice if they disclosed that at the time of request. So I had to scramble to get full coverage, but since I do work independently within the insurance industry, the company I got stuck with isn't my favorite. Now I'm looking for other options.

We have been happy with Progressive.

We use progressive for all our needs. We are not fulltimers.

We have had home, auto, and RV with State Farm for many years and have always been very pleased with how quickly they have handled claims on any of them. Caught a steel column with my rear cap exiting storage last year and did major damage to rear cap. Called State Farm, they said take it to repair facility of my choice, repair facility worked estimate, got approval from SF, and completed repairs all in a 3 week period. And that included July 4th holiday in the middle. $14,000. Cost me $500 deductible.

Have even refinanced an SUV and truck thru them after first getting rebates for going thru Ford credit. Rates were as good as local banks and CUs.

Many automotive policies only cover the RV when being towed. I have my Montana insured with The Hartford under a separate RV policy.

We have had full timers coverage with GEICO for about 7 years and are very happy with it.

Our Montana has no specific insurance. My only concern is liability so I carry an umbrella liability policy that goes beyond standard vehicle liability insurance.

We found Progressive provided the best RV coverage.
1) Total loss replacement, with the same model year, for years 1 thru 4.
2) Total loss replacement, at the initial purchase price, year 5 forward.
3) Vacation liability - $10,000 coverage
4) Personal effects replacement $2,000 limit
5) Roadside assistance.
6) Pet insurance $500 limit
7) Mexico coverage

Our premium for a year is only $900

We have Encompass and I had the pleasure of using it last year after snagging a cut-off limb in a tight campground. Reported it to the company at the time and 4-6 months later when we got home, had it fixed with no problems other than the $500 deductible. Our policy covers the TV, the RV and other vehicles and whatever occurs wherever (not just while towing) as well as umbrella coverage for all vehicles and the RV as well as the residence for less than $300 per year for the RV. Road hazard and towing is covered by our Good Sam coverage.

I've looked into several companies and appreciate everyone's response! I have progressive right now, full coverage agreed value policy for $365/yr. I checked with Geico but they were Actual Cash Value policies which means they can depreciate the hell out of your RV. I'll look into a few more when I get back from vacation and share what I found. Make sure if you do obtain insurance for full coverage that they cover it while its sitting as well as being towed. Allstate didn't disclose that to me until I pushed them and if a tree fell on my previous camper I would have been out of luck!
