Collision Repair

On our way south for the winter through Indiana, I was forced to detour off of a main road due to construction. The detour was twisting and narrow. I cut a tight turn too closely and ended up dragging the right side of our 5th wheel through a ditch. It bent a jack and caused quite a bit of cosmetic damage to the right rear quarter. The rear cap was also separated causing the inner wall to separate and dislodge the picture window.

What a mess! We were devastated and were at a total loss as to what to do. Where do we take it for repair? Fortunately, this leg of our journey was near our daughter's so we had a place to stay. We called several "RV" dealers and all were booked and could not even look at the trailer for a month.

I then stumbled upon Cliffords Paint and Collision in Louisville in my online searching. Not only do they specialize in fiberglass and RV repair, they were only 20 minutes from where I had parked the trailer for the night. I called the next day and spoke with Paul and he asked us to bring the trailer in that afternoon.

Long story short, we were so lucky to have found these outstanding professionals. Within a month, we were back on the road looking better than new! Their attention to detail was amazing and they really stepped up and went beyond our expectations. Paul kept us updated on progress on a regular basis. No wonder they have been in business for nearly 100 years!

If you are in the Kentuckiana area, or even if you are a bit further out, this is the place to call for your collision repairs!

Great to hear. Sometimes you just get lucky. I had a similar experience when I caught my left right corner on a steel column and almost completely ripped off my rear cap. Found what turned out to be a great RV repair facility about 50 miles away. But they had a satellite facility 12 miles away where I could drop it off and they took it to their main facility. And like yours, looked as good as new afterward. We must be living right.

You are a lucky man. I did the same type of damage and the repair shop said they had to order an entire new rear wall/cap. $21,000 damage and it's taking months to repair.

Our repair shop gave us a choice - to repair the cap or order a new one. The backlog for a new cap was about 4 weeks, so we opted to go for the repair. It looks great. The one consolation was that they could not create a gel coat over the repair that would match, so they went with automotive paint. Looks great and you can't tell the difference from stock without a microscope.

They didn’t give me that option. I would’ve taken it. Thus process is moving on its third month.

Did repairs need to be done to the roof as well?

Have had good luck with non dealer repair services, all mobile. One did have to take to shop top to replace roof after a tree limb puncture and once after a kitchen fire. Have found most all are professionals and do as good or better work than dealers. Usually repairs are done within a day or so unless parts have to be ordered and then within a week or two not a month or longer through a dealer.

Had a battle with a pump island at a truck stop when I went to the car side by accident(no pun intended). Trying to "thread the needle" to the proper side. I did about 10,000 worth of damage. I would strongly reccomend "bob's rv repair" in Marion N.C. Courteous, quality craftsmanship left my rig looking looking showroom new, which considering it was a 2 month old 2019 375 fl made me very happy. Dale and Erica are terrific.
