Jim thanks a lot for the info. I totally agree safety is number 1 that is why I am asking I certainly would not want to put anyone in danger being overloaded the max towing amounts have to be there for some reason. I realize it’s a pain to drive that dally around when not towing.

You would probably have to post a picture of the spreadsheet printout. Not everyone would have the spreadsheet software to open the associated file.

Excel spreadsheets are not a supported document type for posting here. Publish it as a PDF and then you can upload it.

Yes, if it's an Excel spread sheet, just Save As and in the pull down is the option to save as a PDF.

Got it and then you can put it back in Excel and work with it, I will load it up when I get to my other computer. The program work really well I was able to do mines and I’m at about 80%.

HOWEVER, after all the number crunching, (yes this truck is CAPABLE of pulling that rig) we followed the EXCELLENT advice of this forum and stories of white knuckle rides and people upgrading from SRW to DRW we decided to bite the bullet and traded in the Prius for a F350 Lariate, crew cab, full bed, diesel, dually. Going uphill, down hill, cross winds, 18 wheelers blowing by me. Never felt a thing. Safety first. Glad we got it.

Spot on.

DQDick often points out it isn't just the springs and axles you have to consider. Its also the TIRES and their rated capacity!!! Two more tires on the back end cuts the weight carried by each quiet a bit! Folks don't buy big &%^* rear ended trucks because they like them. They do it because it is the best TOW truck.

Like I have said a hundred times: IF your shopping for a truck and there is no reason not too, get one size larger than what meets the minimum requirements when your at maximum load.

And, like many, we started towing our first Montana 3400 with a 2500 Silverado. Our next (3) trucks have been 1 ton SRW’s. We tow one of the smaller Montana’s. Our driveway is a 22% grade. The 2019 Ram does a much better job than our 2013 with the increased torque. We have learned a lot from this forum and the Rallies over the years.

This is always funny to me how everyone needs a DRW truck. I have seen semi trucks on there side from the wind so I guess a DRW truck may not always be the best truck. My SRW truck has never scared me towing in the wind. Mind you my rig is only 13,000#'s but if I were to hit 15,000#/'s then I would go DRW because of hitch weight but that would be the only reason I would need a bigger truck. As far as stable my SRW is just as stable as a DRW.

Like Slow Hand, we tow a 34' Monte weighing just under 13,000 with our SRW. There has never been a time when it felt unstable, even in very high cross winds across the Llano Estacado or trucks passing at high speed on the interstates. Far more stable than large MHs we have been behind walking from stripe to stripe. Pin weight would also be the only thing to push me to a DRW.

Okay let see if this can happen, and I guess that it can be save in excel so you can work with it. This is from my excel program and maybe you can save it back to excel.


Okay you just fill in the blank as best you can or you might have to put it in excel so it will work it a pretty good program that will tell you where you at.


The good thing about it you don't have to tell nobody, lol.

At 13000 lbs I agree. A DRW is not necessary in many applications. You, yourself, illustrate the point. A properly loaded SRW is virtually as safe as DRW which would not be challenged but the same load. But a SRW simply cannot compete with a DRW that is within it's specs but exceeds those of a SRW... It's just physics. If you don't need DRW... don't get it, if that is your choice. DRW just gives more room and stability and is a good choice too. If you "need" a DRW because of weight or other reasons then only ego will be the reason for opting for a SRW. You usually can't go wrong with more truck than you need.
