Direct Tv question

We were notified that our Direct Tv won't be allowed to stay 'on hold' this winter for the Monte, we have AT&T U-verse at home, so it is just for the Monte, any way around that besides going to Dish for their RV deal?
We have the Wineguard Traveler set up for Direct TV, what is involved in switching it to Dish if I have to next Winter/Fall?
Thanks!!!

I would talk to a supervisor, and if they will not give in, tell them you going to check out the Dish monthly RV plan. Likely they will find a way for you to keep Direct and do what you want to do.$

Ozz,
If you want to convert the Traveler to Dish, in the past there was a kit available from Winegard. The kit was RP-SK11.
I have done a search and am not getting very far with Winegard. There are plenty of references to the kit to do the conversion.

Ozz, the Carryout can be converted to Dish by changing switch positions, I think I have the instructions somewhere if you need them

Leonard, I have the fancy-pants rooftop auto-seek HD one, so it is probably different. but thank you for the offer.
I just found out today she talked to them, so I haven't had an opportunity to look into it.

It's not as simple as the carry out. We have both. When the Traveler is installed it comes in a separate box with a Direct TV or Dish label on the dish. I believe it can be converted but I was led to believe it's a little more than a couple of switches.

You got me curious Ozz, all I do is carry the receivers out of the house and use them in the Montana. Directv in the rig or at the house, have never had to change anything, of course the downfall is the monthly bill stays the same.

Bingo ... some of us just leave a receiver in our fiver as we don't have use for two in the stick house. Up until Ozz's post saying otherwise, Direct TV would let you deactivate a receiver for the winter months without having to send it back resulting in a savings for the 2nd receiver monthly fee.

Actually, I have AT&T U-Verse for the Casa, and got the Direct Tv just for the RV.
I don't recall the specifics, but they let us de-activate for the Summer. Now that we are home for the winter, they are want us to activate, or call U-verse to see if they have some program. Sue talked to them.

We just got back from Alaska and when I went to activate our Direct TV there was a warning that I could not suspend my service again for another 12 months.

OZZ. If you get mad at direct tv you can always switch to dish, all you have to do is change the Reflector (RPSK11) $32.00 and the L&B RPSK2 $280.00. You can only go from direct tv to dish not the other way

Yes, the contract time may be an issue.
Thanks Bill, that is what I thought. I will probably go to Dish after all this is done

Direct and I are going to have a conversation when I get home. Tired of them being very helpful one time and totally useless the next. I WANT LOCAL CHANNELS ALL THE TIME, NOT JUST WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT!

I have the same roof mount as you. I have been unhappy with Direct TV for some time. You can convert to Dish, but cost is well above $200 per Winneguard. I'm still under contract with Direct until March 2014, but will seriously consider switching then. My biggest beef is that we are frequently more than 450 miles from home so you lose all local channels, including NBC, CBS, and ABC, and unlike Dish , Direct TV refuses to temporarily change the equipment location. During football season I have to use the RV Park's cable frequently which kind of negates the benefit of Direct TV!

This is listed on the DTV site!

How do I temporarily suspend my DIRECTV service?

If you will not be using your DIRECTV service and would like to temporarily suspend your account, you can do this at no charge by calling us at 1-800-531-5000. You can say "suspend services" at the voice prompt and the automated system can complete your request.

Reasons you might put your service on hold include:

Going away on vacation
You have a second home and only need service for part of the year
You are moving or relocating to a new location and it will be a while before you can have DIRECTV service at your new home

Requirements for putting your service on hold.

Zero balance on your bill
Customers with only 1 account are allowed a maximum of 2 suspend requests every 12 months
Customers with 2 or more accounts are allowed a maximum of 4 suspend requests per account every 12 months
Total time with service suspended per 12 month period cannot exceed 6 months
The minimum time for an account suspend is 30 days

Additional reminders about putting your service on suspension:

Service agreements are extended for the amount of time the account is in suspension. For example: Your service agreement expires in June, but then you suspended the account for 4 months. The updated service agreement now ends in October
Recurring or promotional credits don't get extended. For example: You currently have 6 months left of a $10 for 12 months credits offer, but suspend your account for 2 months. You will forfeit the credits during the time in suspend. Your account will receive the remaining 4 months of credits when it is reinstated from suspension
If there is an active sports subscription installment payment on the account, any remaining multi-pay charges are billed to your account when it's reinstated from suspension even if the season has ended.

Generally OZ, when we suspend DTV I could only do it for 6 months at a time. I like the post earlier about politely telling DTV you may switch to Dish. While I am a DTV long timer, I do like the "no contract" Dish offers and the month to month. Just don't need to pull the trigger on DTV yet!

I have DirecTV in our home with one main receiver and two auxiliary receivers, all HD, all tied together. For an extra $6/month I have an additional main receiver in our Monte. Yeah, it's a PITA that I can't get my local channels when I'm over 300 miles from home, but under those circumstances I'll use our antenna or the campground's cable.

If I'm too addicted to those commercial-laden channels, and the antenna or cable isn't an option, I'll get my home receiver to record them via an Internet command through an app provided by DirecTV.

If none of THAT works, I've resigned myself to the fact that it wasn't meant to be...

For years I used the same service in my stick house and RV. After I went on the road all the time DTV kept getting harder to deal with. I finally signed a mobile agreement with them.
