Very close call(update)

I took the Truck into the shop for a front end checkup today as I went over 100K and out of warranty a week ago and have never had any front work needed. As soon as he took the weight off the front end the left front wheel dropped and tilted under the truck. The bearing was toast. So now I get a new wheel bearing and ball joint on the left side. Not bad timing I would say. But it makes me cringe thinking what could have happened if I had lost that wheel hauling the rig in the Boston traffic or at normal highway speed. EEEEEEWWWWWWWW!

The truck is fixed and after talking to the wrench who did the work I have the straight skinny. The boss nut under the hub had backed off between 1/4 and 1/2 turn and when he took it apart he only had to use his fingers. The "crush nut" had not stopped the nut from backing off. That was why the bearing went. So it is all fixed and works nicely.

That was a close call for sure.
I do love it when things work out for the better.

Wow...go buy a lottery ticket. Did you replace bearing and ball joint on the right side too?

Nope, they were good to go, but will take care of those maybe next month anyway. 500 and change before the eagle poops hurts, will wait till he poops again.

Dave, I seem to remember a different word in that phrase about the Eagle.

Boy you had better give that Duramax a big hug and a good drink of oil! You are one lucky guy! Just got my '07 out of the shop and after a $5000+ bill, have a new truck(long story on that one)! Only problem is it has 75,000 on it and it is due the 75,000 check up! Don't know what they want for that but I guess I'll have to live with it since DW won't let me even look at a new one! We have had a deal for years, she gets a new car and I trade trucks within 6-9 months! Well, it really isn't a deal, it just happens that way! Don't think I'll get away with it this time! Thanks for the reminder Dave on having things checked and hope you get another 100,000 out of yours! Talk at you later!!
