Trailer Wiring Fault

We have been experiencing an intermittent "Trailer Wiring Fault" warning coming up on the drivers display in our F350. It only stays on for several seconds before going away but comes and goes. Today we also lost the trailer brakes briefly during the fault report. I know because I manually applied the brakes when the fault came on and there was nothing the first time and then they came back the second time I tried.

Has anyone any suggestions where to start looking for the fault? I am thinking it might be the plug but very difficult to trace seeing as it comes and goes and doesn't stay on long enough to run down.

I just had the same problem and it was a loose wire in the wheel. Suggest you check the connections under the trailer and if they all look good then go the the wheels. My trailer fault started as intermittent than changed to a constant alarm/error display.

We had the same problem, one of the magnet wires in the wheel was rubbing on the wheel and would intermittently short out.

I too had this problem with my Ford. I believe there is a TSB out for the 2008 Fords 7 pin connector, seems they are not sealed in the back where the wires plug in and water can get in and corrode the connections.

I pulled my plug out from under the truck and all the connections were corroded, cleaned everything up and put some dielectric grease on the connections. Then I checked all the wires that I could find, no problems there. Then I had the 7 pin connector on the camper side replaced, this fixed the problem.

So, it could be a number of different problems, so you just have to start somewhere and check everything.
