AC cover

Has anyone's front AC cover blown off while sitting in a campground?. Ours is stored in a campground and when we rode by to check on it yesterday the front AC cover was propped by our stairs. Guess it blew off and someone put it next to the camper. Where the front two bolts go it's cracked and split....

Is this a warranty thing? It's not a year old yet....

Thanks!

Are all the screws still in the metal base and they all pulled thru the plastic bonnet or are they missing? Just my take here ... wind blowing the bonnet off would be hard pressed to classify as a warrany issue, but could be an insurance issue. I doubt if the bonnet would cost what your deductible is.

Was there a tornado where you stored your Montana? Our's is held on by screws and is subjected to 70+ MPH winds and has never come off. I don't see how it could have just blown off.

Very unusual for that to happen unless maybe not installed properly in the first place

Way too many screws for it to come off with just front screw locations messed up. I always assumed all the ones littering the highways were due to old age. Time to pony up for a new one anyway. john

I thought the same thing - that it should hold up to some strong winds... Since it was 100 degrees when we found the cover my husband was afraid to get on the roof - he was afraid it might be weak from the heat and he didn't want to crash through..... Not sure if that could happen? We'll have to get up there and see what is going on either very early or very late to beat the heat. He thinks he can repair it with a fiberglass kit?? We'll see. I saw a post on here where you can get the identifier and order a replacement. Unfortunately we are headed to the Rally this weekend and I don't want to travel without the cover so if he can't fix it we'll probably have to buy one at Camping World....

I sent an email about this to Keystone but they haven't responded yet. It looks like the holes to the 2 back screws are intact so I wonder if they just forgot those screws?? Seems like if they were installed the case would have had to break on the holes for it to fly off??

Thanks everyone!

No, there wasn't a tornado. Some winds but nothing severe. None of the other RVs had any issues ..... And some of them look like a little wind would blow them over....

I only see 4 screw holes - is that the right amount? Someone said too many screws for that too happen. 4 doesn't seem like a lot. I would have put them on all four sides of the cover.

As far as the roof is concerned, there's plywood under there and he shouldn't fall thru due to heat.

Thanks Dick and Joyce. I'm afraid one of us is going to have to go up there and see what has happened. I'm afraid of heights.... What a thing to happen right before the rally! Now I'm worried about getting it fixed rather than excited about our trip.....

My original AC only has 4 screws. It is an 2006 and the shroud material seems much heavier. The newer AC that I installed a few years ago was much thinner plastic but has 10 to 12 screws. Jim
