Awning Tilt

I was just wondering if there is any way to tilt the electric awning? I read the instructions and they are basically useless. It just says to put the awning out, hold the button. To put the awning in, hold the button. I put the awning when we aren't at the coach and at night, but I liked to keep the old manual one out and at a good tilt to let the water roll off if it rained. Plus, what about the knobs on each side? Do I need to tighten those once the awning is out or what? I wish this stuff was covered in the instruction manual. Thanks in advance.

On the right arm looking out from the trailer, you can pull in on the arm and then turn the knob to hold it in place, ((((But don't forget to loosen it if you let the awning back in.)))))) I think both arms work the same way but I can only reach the right one without a ladder.

X2, that's how it works on our rig. Having to remember to loosen the knob is the hardest part, particularly when you have the wind pick up in the middle of the night and get up to roll it in.

On ours, the gas struts allow the proper flex to shed the water automatically. We do nothing but put out the awning. We have a 2009 Big Sky 340RLQ 10th Anniversary Edition.

On our 08 3400RL we had to add the adjustable arm which was free from Dometic. It can not be put on the front of the awning because of the electric.

We have found that the awning is designed with sufficient tilt built-in, so that even in heavy rains, the water run off is adequate.

The adjusters come in very handy to lower the awning down to block the morning/evening sun as well.

After you tilt the electric awning does anyone have a problem with the door hitting/rubbing the awning like I do???? That is the one big thing that bugs me about the electric awning on my Montana.

Mine hits the door without tilting. The door drags against the top of the awning, not all the time, but frequently. I've tried to raise both arms and lock down the knobs to help the awning to clear the door. Someone suggested one of those rollers to attach to the top door edge, but that's not a solution, the roller will still wear the awning fabric. At least the modern day doors are rounded at the corners, unlike the days of old wood and tin boxes we use to call rvs.

Ours did the same thing when we picked it up from the dealer 2 years ago. I ask the dealer to fix it and when I went back to pick it up two hrs away all they did was put the little roller on the door. needless to say is was not a happy camper I took the camper home do to the fact we had a camping trip that next weekend. I thought I could get used to it rubbing on the door, but I could not. I took it back to the dealer and insisted that there was another way to fix it . Well there was Keystone sent new arms on the side of the trailer to move the roller up about 3 inch or so. now the awning will not touch the door unless i tilt it a lot on the front side. I would ask your dealer to look into it for you. It worked for me.

I don't know if this will work on all models, but it does on ours. We extend the awning completely, and then I then it back a hair and it tightens and raises the awning just enough to where it clears the door. The only reason I tried this is I read it previously on the forum. I would give credit to the originator, but I have no clue who it was many moons ago!!

Thanks Bingo...yes that is the trick. We do the same thing, extend the awning all the way and then retract it until the flap on the roller hangs straight down and the door will not hit the awning.

r,
Jack

I agree with nosticks about the little roller being put on the door.I just had a new awning put on and told the dealer about the door hitting the awning and he
said he would try to do something about it. I don't know if he did anything or not but it was a little better. To really fix it you would have to remove the
rail that holds the awning in place and move it up a couple of inches and most likely raise the arms also. More holes to fill and fiberglass to repair and gelcoat
to put on etc etc etc... Doesn't Keystone check on stuff like this when they put the camper together? The only reason I can think of for not moving it from it's
present location is that there is no framework other than where it is now located.

Sky,
We have the same floor plan you have and if you just retract the awning a bit like I stated in my post above, you will not have a problem with the door hitting.

Jack

Thanks Jack, Good hints and good advice are always appreciated. I'm going to need it, as we will be on the Outer Banks at the end of June and first week of July.
Been there many times and we know how hot the sun can be.

After reading through the replies, I realized I have the same problem with clearance. But mine isn't with the door, its with the kitchen slide. I let the awning all the way out and then roll it back in a little so it doesn't rest on top of the slide. In that position the door has clearance. So, I may not be able to tilt it anyway. If I tilt it to the right it will probably hit the door. Oh well, looks like I will just roll it in when it looks like rain. Thanks for all the replies and advice.
