Closet Wall Out of Whack

When connected to the truck, the closet wall panel, the one inside the closet on the side of the washer/dryer cabinet, bows in pretty severly. So much that all the staples holding it on have popped out about half way up from the floor. When we unhook and take the weight off the pin, it can be pushed back into place, but no way when hooked up.

Has anyone else experience this problem and found out what fix is needed?

Thanks in advance,

Sounds like you have a frame problem. Better have a look where the pin box frame attaches to the main frame structures.

Sorry to say, but it appears you have the dreaded frame flex, broken pinbox gusset, wall coming loose from the frame scenerio. Others that have experienced this first hand will soon explain further. You'll have to drop your plastic cover under the bedroom to start exploring ... or get ahold of your dealer / Keystone for direction.

I just went through this with ours last year. You have frame flex caused by broken welds. Contact Keystone, they took care of ours last year at no cost to us. Good luck.

Frame flex. Keystone may or may not rectify the problem. They have previously taken care of this problem on a case-by-case basis. Our frame flex was paid for by us. $3100.

He has a 2010 unit. It is most likely still under warranty which is why wed advise him to call keystone ASAP.

We had the same problems on our 2010. We stopped by the service center and they sent us to a repair place close to them. They removed the under belly and checked the frame and found no problems. The cure was that the piece of paneling was cut to big for the hole. They trimmed it down and no more problems.

I was afraid I was going to hear the "frame flex" reply. We're down in Florida now and need to get back to MI. I sent an email to Keystone with pictures. We might be able to drop it off on the way home....hopefully we make it that far. I thought about just trimming the panel, but then again I think the panel should fit the hole hooked up if it fits unhooked. Something is moving too much. I measured it hooked and unhooked and the top of the pin box moves about 5/8 inch closer to the bottom of the cap when the weight is put on the hitch.

Our 1 year warranty was up in January, but it's my understanding that the warranty on the frame is longer. Guess we'll see what they say.

Thanks all,

the "frame flex" statement may be a bit missleading. The symptoms are the same but the original frame flex issue was corrected by a frame modification. Most likely you have experienced a failed wield in that area. I would really get it to the servive center as they are the experts in that kind of repair.

We have the same problem. We took the RV to our dealer and they had no idea of what the problem was. The under panel was removed and there were no noticeable frame problems. The dealer contacted Keystone and it was decided that we take the RV to the factory in Oregon. We are on our way there for a April 11 appointment. They have us slotted in for a week, as I was told. Just to let you know I have been pulling around the RV for 9 months now with this problem and It is not getting any worse. It is frustrating to have to wait so long to get stuff fixed with Keystone. Our list is long as none of the repairs that were scheduled to get done at our dealer never got done. Our rig is a 2010 Montana 3665RE. I will keep everyone updated after we get this problem solved at the factory. I think there is going to be a lot more posts on this issue.

Gary,
I will be very interested in what they find in Oregon next month. As you know, I was experiencing the same thing and you saw it in Quartzsite. I contacted Keystone and they recommended a dealer in California inspect it. The underside was dropped and all welds inspected with no discrepancies noted. I also went to the dealer and looked at it while it was opened up and all looked well. I still have the bow in the W/D side wall, but it has not gotten any worse and I cannot detect any other damage or discrepancies. Keep me posted.

Jack

I was just curious if anyone got resolution on this problem. We have the exact same thing. Out of warranty, etc. Just trying to figure out what to do.

We had the same problem eve popping staples. Took 1/4 in. Off bottom of wall, no more problem, it is very likely not frame flex. All frames flex some, impossible to prevent. Keystone sent a new wall. The tech and I decided to trim the bottom of the wall and had good success. Prevented taking cabinets apart. Used a vibrating saw, can' t even see the cut. Larry

Greg,
When I was having this problem we were out of warranty as well. I contacted Keystone Customer Service and explained it to them and then told them I would like to take our rig to the factory in Pendleton,OR rather than a Keystone dealer to have the problem fixed. They (Keystone) set up an appointment for us in Pendleton and the work was completed at no charge to us. Here is a link to my post talking about the service we received there: Pendleton. In that post is another link that describes what the factory guys did to rectify the problem. While it is true there should/will be some frame flex, some of us were experiencing excessive flex which was causing other damages.

We had the same problem last year. The local dealer was instructed to remove the front cap and confirm if wood was installed inside the tubular side rails which it already was from the factory. Then they welded some additional guessets beneath the closet area and stitch welded the box beams together which run from side to side. Honesty, I still see the same amount of movement at the pin box and believe the shorter wooden wall panel was all that was needed.

Had same problem. Keystone had my dealer inspect frame and replace the panel. Bonus, got to keep panel sheet not used in the repair.
