Dont get sick on a holiday!

We were all excited to go on a long weekend trip down the Oregon Coast for memorial day weekend. Got set up Thursday night and enjoyed Lincoln City all day friday. Was having some abdominal pain in the afternoon, but I have had this on and off for almost a year and doc figured is was dehydration/diabetes related and prescribed lots of water.

Broke out the BBQ for a nice dinner and grilled corn on the cob and then steaks. Did I mention I hate crows, went in for a fork and one got four ears before I returned. Anyway pains got worse and I ended up in the ER that night. I was diagnosed with Kidney stones and due to the location and size, felt I needed sugery that night.

Not alot of options down there and we decided to hook up the trailer and return Saturday morning with the understanding of getting to a hospital in Olympia who had a specialist available.

After six agonizing hours, I was in the er with an arrogant Dr. that seemed upset to be taking direction from a dr in Lincoln City. That lead to a realization that he didnt want to call in the specialist.

Left and went home. Talked to a Dr here in Grays Harbor. Back in for more labs and set me up for surgery on Tuesday.

I am now feeling alot better and should be good as new in a couple weeks. All who viewed the films could not believe how big the stones are and I was lucky to get care at this point.

I am very easy going and flexible but could not believe the arrogance of that one Dr. He even went so far to keep from calling the specialist which had been set up earlier from Lincoln City, that if the dr came in it would be considered elective surgery there fore kiss medical insurance goodbye. I am done venting and as always on a great note, all the campers at Neskowin Creek that offered us assistance sure make me feel good about being a camper!

I had a friend get sick in Quartzsite several years ago. The only doctor(s) in town at the time took only Medicare patients, so my friend had to go out of town. Not a good experience.

Sorry you had a bad holiday, glad you're better now. Apparently the low man got the holiday shift at the ER and he really was a low man.

Some doctors still get that I am a god kinda attitude when some one that they don't consider an equal would dare to have a diagnoses or a course of action. Even if it is right course of action they will fight it to the end because they did not think of it. I have in the past when saddled with one of these pre-madonnas told him to take his damn nose out of that lap top and actually listen to me for a minute. Didn't do much good.

I can emphasize with your kidney stones. I once passed 27 in a 48 hour period. I was prescribed a vicodin every 4 hours for the pain until the Monday when I could get ultrasound to pulverize them. Well, I was taking 4 every hour and sluicing the alcohol as well for the pain. Had it once more and hope to never have them again!
