Baby Oil?

We have a boat with a head (toilet) and holding tank. The manual for the head says to lub it by putting a small amount of baby oil in the bowl. Granted it is a pump out system rather than like the system in our RVs, but has anyone heard of doing this with an RV toilet?

We have used vaseline around the seal in our RV toilet. Helps the seal stay supple and actually causes it to swell up a little. Never heard of using baby oil, but that could probably work also.

I think if you drink Cod Liver Oil, it does the same thing for the john.

It sounds like it would probably help Tom. I have heard of an additive for the tanks that helps oil the drain valve shutter so it doesn't stick, but I've never tried any.

With everything else going down, I don't think a little baby oil will hurt the sensors!!!!

Hmmm! As an afterthought, good question.

The commercial product for your marine head would be[ Sea lube],not sure about baby oil. but guess it will help. The object is to lube the rubber seals and pump, and it really does help.

Any kind of petroleum based lubricant will deteriorate rubber-like seals. So, vaseline is a no-no. I think, but not 100% sure, that baby oil is a mineral oil, so it would be ok. Vegetable oil would also be ok, but would not stay as long.

I've used vaseline on our toilet seals for over 30 years with no adverse effect on the seals.

i think any petroleum base product is a no no. best go to an auto parts or plumbing store and get O-ring lube. it made for rubber gaskets and seals. lol you could kill two birds with one stone. drink the cod liver oil and........... well the O-ring lube would be easier on you.
