New 2019 f350 dually

After a year of towing my 2018 3820fk with a 2017 f350 Srw. I decided in order to sleep at night, I needed to upgrade to a 2019 f350 dually. My question is on my 2017 I needed airbags in order to ride level. Will this new dually require them as well? My trailer is 400 miles away in storage for the winter, so I would like to have the air bags installed prior to picking it up, if needed. I also would like to avoid airbags if they aren’t necessary. Thoughts?

I installed a set of Timbrens on my ol Ram. It helped take the bounce out when empty.

Dhardy,

No. You do not 'need' airbags.
Your dually is built to handle the pin weight.
Some folks have added airbags to help the ride.
I don't have them.
I suggest you try towing without, first.

I installed air bags on my 2011 Ram 3500 SRW and it actually improved the ride both with and without towing the 5th wheel. It made the tail way less bouncy.
I would definitely spend the money again.

Yes my dually is designed to handle the pin weight. We added them to both our F-350's to get a nice level setup. It works for us.

I added airbags to my dually. It keeps things level. No regrets.

Installed airbags on ours, and glad I did.

Dhardy, I was curious about the same thing..and did same as you ,a 3820fk and SRW with airbags and went to DRW exactly except on the Chevy side...but so far so good without the airbags.I am going to wait a couple trips and see how it goes before deciding. The one thing is for sure , the new truck handles the bigger 3820 better for us. Expensive but worthwhile upgrade.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I think I now feel safe to at least try without airbags, and then make my decision later.

I don't have bags on my dually, though I'm thinking about adding them as well to smooth the ride out some. I've towed without them all last year and some roads are quite bumpy while towing, adding them won't hurt, just smooth it out loaded or empty

I have a 2018 F350 SRW towing a 40 ft Alpine. It rides level and ride actually is still smooth. Had a 2016 F350 SRW and it would squat a little more than my 18. I put Airlift airbags only to help it ride level. Didn't feel difference in ride

You should not need them. The duallys are designed to handle the weight. My 14s payload is just shy of 5k, a 19 should be more. IMHO if you need them, you need a truck more capable of carrying the weight that you have upon it

I was towing a 2015 Montana 3790RD with a 2017 F350 drw. Pin weight of Montana was 3850 lbs. Truck did not have airbags and rode just fine towing.

WOW!! that's a lot of pin weight. Mine is around 2750lbs, and that's with 300 lbs of ice in coolers and many other heavy things in the front storage compartments.

A level ride is a good thing it helps with tire wear. We do have air bags for this reason.

Measure the back end of the truck empty then measure loaded then you will know how much it squats. Mine dropped about 2 inches loaded-3480 pounds hitch weight. I installed airbags and put just enough air in them to bring my truck back to level. It's not a matter of needing them but whether you want your truck and rv running level which I do.
