Newbee's

Greetings,

We are Don and Michele Hay (thehays). Just picked up an 05 2955RL.
Planning a 3 month U.S. tour starting next May. Have an 04 Ram 2500
with HO diesel, both are factory new.

Installing 4, T125 6V batteries and Yamaha EF3000iSEB for AC power.
I am currently running the weight numbers and seem to indicate that I
am right at the upper end of the tow vehicle capabilities. The posts
here and at other sites suggest that my combination will work fine but can't help but be a little nervous.

Look forward to reading other folks posts about their Montana's.
Hope to keep this rig into retirement in about 5 years. For the time being, boss gave me three months off work to make this trip possible.

Happy trails!

Don and Michele

Welcome Don and Michele to the MOC.

I do like your choice in Montanas. You can see by my signature that we have the '04 model.

boss gave me three months off work WoW thats some nice boss. If I had a boss like that I would not have retired.
But than again I didn't retire, my job was cut. Job cut or retired either way I'm now fultiming and loving it as I am sure the 2 of you will in 5 years

Welcome. We also have the 2005 2955RL and love it. We have a Ford F250 diesel and it pulls it without a problem.

Hi Don and Michele,

Congratulations on both purchases. That's a fine combination you have there. I'm wondering what the numbers are that have you concerned. I'm not sure the GVWR, GCWR, and tow ratings for the Dodge but for the Montana - I'm using 2004 numbers since I don't have the 2005 numbers. They should be the same or very close.

UVW (unloaded vehicle weight) is 9380. That's supposed to be as it leaves the factory, without battery or propane bottles and no gear or liquids.

GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) is 12,140. That's the max you're supposed to load it to.

For the trip you propose I'd guess it will weigh in approximately 11,500, give or take a few hundred pounds. Pinweight should be 20 to 25% of the total weight, or probably 2300 to 2800 lbs. Most likely, I'd guess, around 2500.

Lots of folks are towing equal or greater weights with the same truck. Maybe some of them will see your post and jump in.

Good luck on your trip. Sounds like a lot of fun. What plans have you made for places to visit so far? Be sure to drop in and let us know of your adventures.

I suspect your Dodge

--edited-- I have no idea what happened to the rest of that sentence. It was supposed to say -- I suspect your Dodge will do a very nice job with your Montana.

It seems that you are doing a fine job of putting the pieces together. The "numbers" these companies put out are very conservative. You should be fine. I have towed over a million miles and would not mind taking your combination anywhere.

congradulations on your choice of 5th wheel. It sounds like you have paired up correctly. We have never had any problem at all towing our 3670RL with our truck.

Don & Michel Congrats on your new Montana I know you will enjoy it as much as we do. I have the same battery combo that you have and its great, as we do a lot of boondocking and it gives us a world of independance!! I carry my honda EU3000 in my truck, and have added a 40 amp. battery chargerand a 1000watt inverter to make us very independant. ours is a small rig I'm sure you will have no weight problems with that beautiful new rig Happy RVing I hope we'll see you down the road!! Welcome to the forum. I am sure you will find some of the best support for like minded individuals. I would love to have your boss. I have the time to take, but not the boss to allow me the time all at once. Enjoy ! Keep us posted.

Welcome ED to the MOC,

I did some searching on Walnut Ridge RV and I found that you are not only a Montana dealer but that you also sell the PullRite. And on top of that you also have a campground. What more could we ask for.

Stick around we may have a question or two for you.
