Lake Okeechobee, Fl

Anyone ever stay around Lake Okeechobee?

We are thinking of going down around the south end of the lake next year and was wondering if anyone can recommend a good campground for a week or 2 stay.

Hi

Are you interested in fishing, do you want near the water, what amenities are you interested in, there are camp sites that range from minimal amentias but right on the lake and then there are sites that have everything you would ever want but are several miles from the lake. The difference is cost.

I live 15 miles north of the lake and my wife and I have looked at most of the camp grounds around the lake.

Phil P,

We are looking for FHU site, maybe with cable. Dont have to be on the lake, but within a 10 to 15 minute or so drive. We dont need a lot of amenities, but would like to be in an area to site seeing too . And maybe a little fishing.

THANKS.....

Hi

I have 3 for you.

This one is in Clewiston Florida on the south end of the lake. This park is owned by Canadians and you will have to make sure you have reservations during the winter months. Clewiston is an agriculture base city of medium size. The biggest attraction is the sugar industry and fishing. Boat rental and guided tours of the lake are available at Roland and Mary Martin’s marina.

Okeechobee Landings RV Resort

This one is on the north end of the lake and rite on Taylor Creek in Okeechobee County. This is about 7 miles from the center of Okeechobee City. Boat rentals and guide service is available but must be arranged by phone unlike Clewiston. Okeechobee city is large than Clewiston. Again during the winter months reservations are a must the fisherman come down here in large numbers.

I don’t recommend any of the RV parks on the east side of the lake.

The west side of the lake has a good RV park called Aruba RV Park. However this is located at Lake Port a very small fishing oriented community and about 20 miles from any real population center. However it is on the southern edge of the Brighton Seminal Indian reservation. The major attraction here is the Casino. Again reservations are a must.

Agree with Phil, Aruba is a nice park and you can probably get in no problems. Buckhead Ridge marina is ok but I heard they were full this year. If you are over on the east Coast at Ft Pierce there is Savanah County Park. We are about 2 miles from it and are going to stay there for a month the last of march/first of April. We sold our house. Good luck

Thanks guys, we saw another one, South Bay RV campground, any comments on it?

We called Zachery Taylor, and she said reservations are not accepted until 3 months before you want to stay.

Hi

South bay is walking distance from Belle Glade. It is a county park with few amenities. There is nothing wrong with it kind of sparse on vegetation and if I remember correctly all camper parking spots are concrete.

This is one of the ones I sent you a PM about. If you are going to stay in that area you would probably find Tory Island Campground operated by the city of Belle Glade a little more interesting in that it is actually inside the dike around the lake. It has been many years (30 or so) since I was there last but have been told it is great for the fisherman.

We stayed at North Lake Estates near Moore Haven for a month last year and were very satisfied. They gave us a good rate because we were first time visitors.

Hi Mina, another friend suggested Arizona or New Mexico too, but not sure if we are ready to go that from home yet.
