outside shower problem/question

When we hooked up today at our latest stop we noticed a dribble of water coming from the area of the outdoor shower. Opened it up and saw some water so turned on the faucet handles and then turned them back off. The hot water one worked just fine. The cold water one did not. It just continued to turn continuously without getting tight. Also it seemed to be spring loaded and sticking up a bit over a quarter inch. And water was gushing out.

I've not seen the type of spring loaded handle like this before. Has anyone had a problem with this thing? Is there some "secret" twisting or something to do to get this thing to work or does the whole assembly have to be unscrewed from the wall?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dennis

Hi Ray,
Nope! But my brother arrived tonight and will take a look at it tomorrow. I tried to find something online and it looks like I will need a complete replacement. But if I can just cap it off for the time being I'll be satisfied. It's not like I use the thing. As a matter of fact I have only used it once and that was pretty much just a test. It wouldn't be so bad but there is no shut off valve on the line to isolate it. The entire rig is out of water. It is simply very inconvenient.

Thanks for asking. By the way did you enjoy the 395 route? We are headed back to Bakersfield via that route. I like to see something different vs the same old thing on I-5 or 99. Hope all is OK with you folks.

Well it is as I suspected. We need a replacement control unit in the outside shower compartment. The cold water control valve is broken. Unfortunately you have to remove the entire unit to get to the connections. There is no local RV parts place here in Canyonville, OR. So we took the unit out of the wall and disconnected the water hoses. Picked up some half inch caps and placed on the ends of the hoses and replaced the unit in the wall. Just like new except no water. But the good news is we now have water in all the right places!

It is a very simple procedure and I would have no problem working on it in the future. If I want to have it work again I'll have to get a new valve assembly.

Dennis,

I once twisted the knob too far to the left (counter-clockwise), and it came off and the water gushed. I was successful in screwing it back on,.....I am just real careful, now. Has worked fine for quite a while.
