Pet = dog?

We lost our sweet Polly, our camping companion (dog), last Christmas. Gnocchi, our new kitty came to us that October, and has taken over the camping companion duties from Polly.

I never noticed this before but when I look to check a campground's pet policies everything seems to be specific to dogs: how your pet must be kept on a leash no longer than 6', must be cleaned up after and if it is barking excessively you may be asked to leave.

I don't know about you, but none of this applies to my cat! She stays inside my fifth wheel, quieter than a mouse!

So when there is a "pet" fee does that apply to my cat?

Hi

We have 2 dogs and a cat. We don’t consider the cat as having to be reported to the campground unless their policy asks about pets other than dogs.

Like you say the average house cat stays in the trailer and doesn’t make noise that can disturb other residents.

Since our three cats never go out of the rig we don't have pets for campground purposes. We used to ask when the policy was unclear, but it never applied to the cats so we don't ask anymore.

There are the occasional campgrounds that consider cats as a "fee" guest. Not many - - -

We haven't had to pay for ours yet either. I used to ask and finally stopped.

You are correct about dogs and that is because Dog Owners are most likely to abuse campground rules concerning dogs. we have a large parrot and campgrounds do not care at all about the Bird.

... and what about goldfish and iguanas????? When is a pet not a pet? A dog will always be a dog though...
Is this pet discrimination? Too much happy hour.

If they can collect from the cats, more power to them. I can't even get them to chip in on dinner

My thought is, why not just say Dog Policy rather than Pet Policy?

How callous of me to just post some flippant remarks and not even offer my condolences on the loss of Polly. My apologies and sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved pet. I hope Gnocchi has a long and happy life with you.

Thank you to everyone who offered condolences on our loss. Polly was a wonderful, sweet, loving dog. There was nothing she loved more than going camping because that meant she would be meeting new friends of the two- and four-legged variety.

Gnocchi (a.k.a. Gno Gno... Pronounced somewhat like nyo nyo) is just starting on her camping adventures. So far she's done pretty well. We learned she does best in her soft sided cat carrier in the backseat of the truck for the first half hour or so then she's calm enough to settle down on the backseat. We also learned she tolerates the harness and leash, but can slip out pretty easily
