Pet owners warning

I could not find the pet forum link...

Just wanted to tell people.... One of our Schnauzers has undergone radiation treatment for a cancer on her lip. Please check your dog's mouth often. This is a fast growing cancer and if it gets too far, they can not remove it but radiation sometime helps. She had to have 19 treatments and is doing great so far. Still has a sore on her muzzle from after effects of the radiation. But is healing up.
This usually shows up in larger dogs so is rather unusual for a small Schnauzer to have this type of cancer.
She is 9 years old and this will give her about 2 more years of good quality life. A year to a dog is like 10 years.
At least we know we have done all we can do. So glad we got her into treatment.

I'm so sorry your Schnauzer has to go through this. We have a mini Schnauzer and a Westie and they both mean so much to us. We discovered the mini is deathly allergic to bees that she loves to chase and bite, and almost lost her twice this past summer when she found them. She isn't 2 yet and we are so glad winter is here and we don't have to worry about the bees for a little while. Each day is a gift with them and I sincerely hope your Schnauzer gets many more than 2 more years with you.

Glad you saved your dog from the bees. That allergy can be bad.

Bonnie is doing well. She is finished with the radiation treatments. She did have 19 every day with weekends off.
Got her in quickly since this was fast growing.
Got her into a specialist clinic in AZ, since we spend winters here. This clinic is wonderful. Has specalist for everything and anything. From heart problems to eye problems. The people working there are very kind too.

Everyone keep your doggies safe by checking them often. I do a scan of my own but missed this. Never thought of something there and I brush their teeth and didn't see it then. Her beard covers her muzzle too. And this was in the corner of her mouth.
She doesn't have a beard on one side of her muzzle now but will grow some of it back. She looks a little like a possum now. Poor girl. But she is still Bonnie. She is the darker dog in my pix.

Update.... Bonnie is done with her cancer treatment for some time now. But the cancer is coming back. So far she is doing OK and her quality of life is good. She eats good and likes to go for walks and etc.
We will lose her eventually we know this, but are enjoying her as long as we can.
Bonnie is taking a light chemo pill once a day, it is slowing the cancer down somewhat and she has no side effects from it. She is also taking two other pills daily.
Bonnie is the darker one in the picture.

Thanks everyone for encouragement.
Yes Steve, we will see you this fall. Looking forward to getting back to the valley. Spending the summer in the mountains of AZ this year. Nice and cooler here.

Patn Rich, What a cute little Schnauzer! How old is she or he?

Didn't travel this summer because we didn't want to be on the road somewhere when Bonnie is ready for the Rainbow Bridge.

Will probably get Lucy another Schnauzer friend this winter.

Thanks for the warning to all dog owners. We obviously love the Schnauzer breed as well. We lost our oldest Amie [14.5) years this past Dec. These dogs have been our closest companions since our daughters moved from home on to their own lives. Our remaining Schnauzer Heidi is 13 years old and like yourselves we know our time with her is limited so we find ourselves living our daily lives always with the best interests of this loyal, devoted dog in mind. Enjoy your time with your precious companion!
