Full time insurance

We have been full time for about a year now and my RV insurance is coming up for renewal. We went with Progressive last year but the rate has increased about 15% for 2010. I did have a comp claim for an electrical fire in Feb but I don't think that would have caused such a steep increase especially since the final bill was less than my deductable of $1000.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a different company to request a quote from?

We have American Home and pay about $515 a year if I'm not mistaken.....

For what it's worth why don't you check out PoliSeek AIS Insurance. they are the agency we work through and were the most economical insurance we could find. They put us through Progressive and the insurance was less than National Interstate who we were previously insured through.

Tell Miguel that one of his clients, Orville Schinke recommended him. I had my brother-in-law and sister-in-law do that and they got a tremendously different cost for their insurance also.

Incidentally, Texas insurance is normally higher than other states, but our insurance through PoliSeek turned out to be $400 dollars cheaper than National Interstate.

In NJ we paid $535 a year - National Interstate

Texas was $1315 a year - Foremost

Now we are domiciled in SD - $555 also National Interstate. We have fulltimers insurance. Had recent claim --- when rig goes into shop for repairs they will reimburse up to 1,500 motel costs.

We also use National Interstate. Both our Montana and our fulltimers is with them. Our truck is with Progressive.

Comparing rates on this forum is useless because rates vary from state the state. Often the rate varies within the state according to your zip code. Actual coverages also vary from one policy to another.

Have you asked the agent for an explanation for the rate increase? Do you know whether there was a general rate increase by all carriers in your state? I re-shop my rates every year, but I ask questions to see if I am being quoted honest comparisons.

I am also concerned about the claims reputation of the carrier. I don't want to have to fight with the carrier to get a claim settled. Sometimes a "savings" isn't.

has anybody tried insurance thru good sam got a quote for5ver truck and car was alot less then then liberty mutual who we,vehad for 30+yrs more than $800.00 . hprum2000

We have Progressive 180 day of use option, but don't get to use it that much. We got broke into 2 months after we got the Monty. All toll repair was $6,300. and insurance never went up that I could tell. I think we paid $480 (or less). Guess I will find out soon, we come up in June for renewal.

Also looking into change of insurance and getting quotes from GMAC, GEICO, American RV and Progressive. Very hard to get apples to line up with apples. My full-time insurance on 2005 truck and 2007 5th wheel went from about $3000 to about $4000 annual premium. Don't have much advice to offer as everyone has different needs and each company has so many programs - open to suggestions as to a tried-and-true company that offers full coverage for less than $3000 annual premium. You are correct when you say, "Hard to line up apples with apples." Insurance is an enigma wrapped in mystery and cloaked in confusion. Most of us really don't understand what we have bought. As important as what is covered, is what is not covered. My encouragement is to read the policy and the exclusions.

Have a couple quotes for replacment cost insurance from RV America that seem reasonable. Liability is 1 million with deductables 250/500 is $525, 500/1000 is $460. We're parking the Monty on a Seasonal site planning 4-6 road trips a year.

It definitely varies state to state.

We had fulltime coverage with National Interstate from South Dakota that under $2000 for both the truck and RV. We have changed our domicile to Florida and the price is more then double... Same Insurance company and same coverage. Location, location, location.
