2 questions!!

1. Where do you got for healthcare when on the road? I would guess the answer to be a walk in clinic for minor and emergency room (obviously) for serious issues.

2. We use the mail out program for prescriptions. How can we get them while on the road? Where would we have them mailed too?

thanks for the expected replies!!

I would first check with your insurance co. to see what they will pay for. If it is an HMO that could be tricky and they may not be willing to pay unless it's an emergency and then you can go to the nearest emergency room. Definately, check with them on this. As for as prescriptions go, we do mail order through Caremark and they will mail it anywhere in US. We have had them mailed to my son's here in TX and also to General Delivery at a Post office where we are. No problem so far and we have gotten our meds in a weeks time or less.

Also, my doctor wanted me to have lab work done at 3 month intervals because I'm on Cholestoral meds. I went to LabCorp as they are all over the country. They took my Insurance card and I didn't pay a dime. My doctor had results the very next day.

We have United Healthcare and when its time for a doctor we go their website and find one that's on the list. It worked for me as I had knee surgery 2 days ago and all I had to do was pay $100.00. for Doctor and Hospital
Medicine comes from Caremark and I've had them sent to Bahia Honda State Park in Florida. I just called the state park and let them know I had reservations and a medicine package being mailed to me. When I checked in they gave me my 90 days of medicine.

Mail medicine, very popular with us RVers. Never had a problem getting what we needed on refills.

BE SURE TO CALL your provider EVERY time you need to see a dr away from home. Coverage changes way tooooo fast.

We had to drive about 40 miles when Al was sick here in January, but, he felt the care was good and the wait was not too bad either. We just tossed in lunch at a great Mexican joint over in Pensacola. Not a bad thing having to drive 40 miles for the dr!

Will also ask if anyone deals with the Veterans Administration with there prescription meds. My meds all come by mail and I order my refills via computer. It sometimes takes 2 weeks for the process to be complete from my order to VA back to me with meds. Would Caremaker be an option. Or does anyone have any idea how to do this on the road.

Thanks
Dave

I got an annual check up before leaving Texas and have rx refills for a year. I get mine filled at Walmart, they will transfer all but controlled drugs. DW is VA and gets hers sent to our Alaska address and then forwarded to us wherever we tell them to.

Emergency care is anywhere we find an ER and acute care is just about anywhere for Cathy and mine is Medicare/Tricare, so anywhere....

Most HMO's are honored at Urgent Care facilities, but check first. As stated, your insurance provider can direct you better than we can.

Dave,
I'm not full timing, so I'm home every 3 to 5 months. When I'm getting ready to hit the road I call the VA pharmacy and get a "Maintenance" refill. I tell them how long I'm going to be gone and they refill for that period of time. I sit down and count how many pills I have, and then tell them how many I need for a return date. Most times they will give me 180 days.

We are full time. Medicare and Transamerica (through Good Sam group) are my primary and supplemental providers. We get a three month RX supply on the road from Costco and a Kroger affiliate, QFC. This is the same as mail order with the exception of having to pay a $5.00 copay. We find this more to our liking than having to continually change address.

Most routine issues, like med monitoring, can be handled at Urgent Care facilities. We always provide a one page summery of our medical history and current medications to the doctor at each visit. This answers a lot of questions before they are asked. The Urgent Care provider is a good resource for information about a specialist in the area if one is needed.

In all the time we've been full timing we have never had a problem with going into walk-in-clinics or finding a doctor who takes Medicare and Tricare4Life. We have been treated well and have never been turned away.

We are on the road now, but staying in one place for 2 months at my SIL place. I had most of our RX transferred over to Walgreens. Those are the generic RX and don't cost that much anyway. So far the mail out has been good because we are in one place. We have Blue Cross/Blue Shield Federal program and shouldn't have a problem anywhere. It really took a little planning with the mailout but it seems to be working for us.
