Ozz, Get it removed. I had mine removed 4 months ago, no big deal. I had to be off work for 2 weeks, so we went camping 4 days after the surgery.

Jim, I had mine out 13 years ago. No big deal if they can do the laser/suction thing. Went in at 5am and was home by 1pm. No more pain.
Happy trails.....................

Bad news does not get better with age, might as well let him take them out. I'm a kidney stone guy myself.

Ozz,
Sounds as if you need a choleocystectomy, aka gall bladder removal. Best to have it done laproscopically. Three little incisions and out the nasty little thing comes...you will probably be grateful afterwards you did. No sense being miserable. Recovery time is much less is done laproscopically instead of open.
Good luck!

Ozz,
Sorry to hear you're in pain.
How does your body take care of the things
that the gall bladder used to do
after it's taken out of your body?

Eagle Man, have you had any problems since the surgery? Like with the foods you can eat, or similar pain recurrence?
Tara, I do understand it is not much of a surgery, but then any surgery gives me pause.
Tara may help on that one Lisa, I wondered that also. I feel better now, a little sore.

Gall Bladder removal as txkrumm describes in recent post is easy and basically painless. If I'm not mistaken, there can be complications for not having it tended to. Go to your doctor. Had mine out laproscopically about 6 years ago and am age 65 now and am in "blessed" good health. Go to your doctor. You and your family need you healthy.

Lisa and Ozz,
The gallbladder is just a "holding tank" for the bile and bile salts that is made by the liver. You can easily live without it. The bile is still there, just not the holding tank. The liver still dumps the bile into the common bile duct then it goes into your intestines to help digest fats when needed...
Ozz, some people say they a little more difficulty GI wise with very fatty foods after a GB removal...most don't

So, after the operation, the body no longer has it's "backup supply" of bile to help in the digestion of all the fatty foods we eat. I can see where you can live without it as long as the foods we eat are nutrious. Hmmm.. Learn something new every day on this forum.

I have not had any problem since the surgery except recurrence, which can't be helped if your body continues to produce kidney stones, and in my case, both kidneys.

Oh my gosh, one of my customers here at the store just told me that they watched something on TV the other night that was showing how there's another new procedure where they take out the gallbladder through your mouth with no incisions at all! Tara - have you heard of this? It's amazing what the docs can do.

Sorry to hear your in pain Ozz. I had a few attacks that put me into the emergency room 12 years ago. Shot of Demeral and I was good to go. If you do have a blood test done while you are in pain your liver counts will be through the roof. Then they will ask you if you drink alot..... after going to the emergency room at three different locations I found an Internal Med Doc and the first thing she said was you don't look like a drinker she would bet the farm on my G B. The pain comes from stones getting lodged in the bile duct plugging it up. Greasy or spicey foods triggered my last episode which was right after eating a bag of Doritos. The bile backs up into the liver causing the pain also causing your blood test to hit the roof on the liver counts.
Get her done and after you have it done then make sure you have a bathroom available after eating for a while. You will need to adjust your eating habits to accomodate the times when your asks for a big shot of bile. Hope this helps a little.........
Good Luck
