Lets Trade Tow Vehicles

Mama wants a 5th wheel that is too large for our current truck. Anyone interested in trading their late model diesel dully, MDT or HDT for a 2004 White, Chevy Silverado, 2500HD, D/A, CC, LB, Bose sound system, front bucket seats, bedliner, factory installed trailer package, brake controller and Reese front receiver.

Truck has less than 15,000 miles has been well maintained and is in excellent condition. Never been smoked in. This truck has been used almost entirely for towing a light TT and not as a daily driver. It does not have a 5th wheel hitch. We purchased it new in December 2004.

If yours is worth more than mine I pay you the difference. If mine is worth more than yours you pay me the difference.

If interested, send me a picture and details of your truck and I'll send a picture of mine.

Contact: oldudbob at oldudbob@yahoo.com

Location: Raleigh, NC area, but willing to travel some to make a deal.

Just curious. What does mama want to tow that your current unit won't pull. I think you could just about pull anything that's towable.

My truck's gross weight is 9,200 lbs., the actual weight with a full tank of fuel, me and the wife is 7,640 lbs. which leaves only 1,560 lbs of addition carrying capacity. All of the Montana's have a pin weight that is higher than the 1,560lbs of carrying weight I have left. So I would be overweight even before I put any gear in the 5th wheel and add options. Yes, I know that the truck will handle it without a problem, but I don't think that I would comfortable with the situation. Makes more sense to get a bigger truck.

I would like to hear from anyone who is towing one of the SURV models with a 3/4 ton truck.

I think you should look a little closer at the weight distribution. In fact the GVWR on many new one tone dually configuration is the same or as the HD 3/4 ton rigs. What is different is the weight on the rear axle. This has a higher rating on some dually configurations because the tire rating is the limiting factor for SRW HD's. Run your truck back across the scales and get the weight for each axle. If you are with in the combined weight rating for TV and trailer and within rear axle rating with the pin weight added to the rear axle weight of the TV you should be just fine with the truck you have (IMHO).

Olddudbob;

You're on the right track from my perspective. The load capacity of a tv is usually disregarded/not considered by many folks although it is probably the most critical fact in tv selection. Most, if not all, of the tv's available can PULL the larger RV's with no problem, but many aren't rated to CARRY the loads involved, as you are already aware of.

Olddudbob: Another thing to consider is upgrading your tires from 245's to 265's. Give you extra carrying capacity.
Although the truck is labelled as 9200 Gross I think if you do some reading it is actually 9800 lbs.
