RGV weather not bad???

Saw the following on the CNN web site. Hope it is accurate!

Texas citrus growers in the usually balmy Rio Grande Valley also suffered a cold snap, but it wasn't severe enough to damage crops, said John McClung, president of the Texas Produce Association.

"The weather's nowhere near cold enough to do anything here," he said, noting that Texas growers might get a small windfall because of the California freeze.

That is probably correct, one night the temperatures dipped under 40F, but not freezing that I have heard of in the RGV. It is damp and dull with a high in the mid fifties for today. Not pleasant, but not really cold.

Thank God the Texas crop is ok. The pictures from California look horrible. Frozen oranges covered in an inch of ice. I feel for the farmers. I hope the consumer groups are wrong about the price of oranges and juice doubling or tripling around my neck of the woods.

We've noticed a lot of plants here in Sun City, near Phoenix, that have heavy damage from frost so your brother is probably correct, Bill.
