R.O. Water, who did it?
My unit just came in, going to install it in the basement..on the wall by the Cornvienence center, I think. No room anywhere.. no room under the sink for shore. Sue's got the taters and onions down there and her cleaning stuff.
Might be a project getting the water to the sink, but I have a few ideas.
I have a Rube-Goldburg way of tapping the water supply, how did you folks do it?
Thanks! Ozz

Ozz, pretty soon you'll have so many gizmos added to your Monty you won't have room for anything else.

I did that in the stick house, wasn't easy there, but could tap into copper lines. Will be watching to see how you get it done in the Monty.

Because you have the unit we had previously, I would go though the cabinet from the living room containing the water heater. That is what I did and it worked out well.

Good idea, I will check with Sue, she has the crock pot, waffle iron and a bunch of stuff in there, so that probably won't work.
One key to doing Mods, I have found through trial and error...mostly error, is to not upset the C.E.O. when I add stuff...
Edit for spelling...

I had one of those and removed it; too much trouble to winterize.
It was installed behind the basement wall next to the water heater. The man I bought my Mountie from is a LARGE man, and I can't figure out how he got that thing in there. I had to lie on my back and route my arms around all kinds of stuff to get the darned thing out. No way I wanted to go through that every winter. I left the spigot on the sink as a reminder of the pain.
I don't remember how it was hooked in to the water supply, though. Blonde, don't forget...

We drink 6 gallons of water every other day.. can't believe we use that much. I was just going to buy it for 30 cents a gallon, it's not the money, it's that we are always going for water. Could drink the C.G. water, but LOVE R.O. water.
Our ice machine really uses allot too.
We climbed the back-side of Saddle Mountain yesterday and drank a gallon of water.
Pat, we have a 3400RL, I will install it in the basement by the cornvienence center. Winterizing it is a concern, but I do it for the house R.O. system, I can live with that.

Oz, winterizing shouldn't be a problem if you add a by-pass to the system. Blow out the system, or remove the filters, then flip on the by-pass valves and winterize. I'm sure you'll think of something cuz you're no dummy.

Thanks Tom.
I just had a minor flood, the old unused water filter holder was set on by-pass and the filter was removed.
Didn't do that good of a job, and the filters were expensive, haven't used it for 3 years.
I heard a 'POP' and water spraying, I ran out shut off the water. The filter diaphragm failed, on-off, didn't matter, still leaked.
I cut it out, repaired the water line, now I can slow my rapid heart-rate down...
Always something.............

Ozz,
Although we did not put the RO unit in our rig we did put a 3 Jumbo cannister unit in to get rid of the nasty iron and sediment we have in the water in the park we are staying at right now.
Here is a link to how I did the set up in the basement.

Good luck!

I'm not an authority on RO water but, I have researched the systems on the market. The short answer to RO water is it's a "hungry" water. The process of RO removes most of the beneficial nutrients such as, Iron, calcium, magnesium and sodium just to name a few. These molecules will not pass through the membrane that filters the water. So your body uses it's own minerals the fix the water, these come from your bones , teeth and organs. Also the water become acidic, many times very acidic. This can and will throw your blood and body ph off. This isn't good either. Just food for thought. Yes it will also remove some bad stuff.

Kevin, my 'stick' house has R.O. water, I installed a system 20 years ago. My father was a Plumber/Pipefitter, all 6 of my brothers and sisters were brought up on R.O. water, so I think I will stay with it. My choppers are fine..
I imagine the research was provided by people selling non-R.O. systems.
The Water filters and water conditioning industry has more 'Snake oil' sellers than any other industry except Vitamin hawkers.

Good read:
http://www.squidoo.com/reverse-osmosis-water-truth-safe
However, I am not trying to convince anyone to drink anything, I was just asking a question on install.
I know how I am installing the system, routing the lines, tapping into the water and running the drain water, but there are smart MOC folks that also know about such stuff, and I am always open to suggestions on the install.
I have installed many of these in peoples business and homes, mine included. I have a large expansion tank for the house, I piped mine up to the kitchen sink from the basement R.O. System location.
When I get this one installed I will have a slide-show on it.
..Shocker...

Ozz, good article about R.O. . I especially liked myth #3. It explains why I'm carrying around extra weight with the 200 to 300 extra pounds of rocks I've ingested the last 60+ years.
