Considering your Ford was an '01, I'd say you're in for a big pleasant surprise. Lots has changed in 14 years. My '07 is ancient compared to what's sitting on the dealer's lots these days. I'm assuming you drove the truck, so you must have noticed some of the differences. The torque and horsepower in the new ones is unreal. I'm sure any of the big 3 would serve you well. I prefer Chevy. My brother prefers Ford. You can pick your truck but you can't pick your family.

I think you will be very happy ,the Duramax/Allison combo has been the most reliable combo for a lot of years since it's intro in 2001 IMO coming from a hard core Ford man before the 6.0 powerstroke then I went Duramax and have owned 2 Duramax's ,they are a little behind now in torque and HP to Dodge and Ford but still a powerfull combo and Dang they ride nice

I have had 2 GM trucks over the last 10 years. Both served me very well!

On our trip to and from Florida in the early spring, I turned on the engine brake and set the cruise at 63 to 65 mph. I was passing tractor trailer rigs in the hills and mountains. But, they would pass me down the back side. Never even used the tow/haul mode of the transmission!

What I want to say is, I don't think I have come anywhere close to finding the maximum pulling capabilities of this '14 GMC!

I think any of the big three are good trucks, but I've owned Chevy most of my life. The current one I'm using now is a 2005 with about 160K miles on it and the only thing Ive had to change besides brakes, filters etc. are the fuel and brake lines. Canadian winters with salted roads are just brutal.
Keep up with the maintenance, filter/oil changes and the Duramax/Alliston combo will serve you well.

Gm will need to up their HP/torque to keep up to the other 2 companies, but for now they have come up with a good combination that has proven to last.

Purchased a 2015 3500 SRW in February and have pulled 6500 miles with 2013 3402RL. Love the truck, it is comfortable and good MPG. Last 1500 mile trip through Idaho and western Montana averaged 11.4 MPG. So far nothing at all to complain about!

I own 2012 3500HD 4X4 dually,crew cab,long bed. I love it.The DuraMax/Allison set up is great. I could do without having to add DEF but you have to no matter which one you buy. Congrads and good luck. Here's another forum you need to join. It's like the MOC but for Chevy/Gmc diesel trucks.

A friend of mine just down the road from me uses his commercially. He just purchased a new Duramax 3500 and was upset because the dealer wouldn’t take his old one in using the excuse that it had 600,000 miles on it.

If you haven't already, you'll be introduced to adding DEF every 5000 miles or so. We get it at Walmart About $12 for a 2.5 gallon container.

Hi, welcome to the GM family. I have had 3 gm trucks, 2 gas and a new 2015 Dmax 3500 Denali. It tows nice I tow a 3582 Montana empty wt 12862 lbs Im sure we are well over 15000 now , truck never shifts when towing and the engine brake will save your brakes. Only thing Im going to do is put air springs to help level truck. DW has a Ford as a company truck, made buying my new gmc more difficult as it too is very nice. Bottom line, Awesome truck and enjoy Congratulations

I'm a Ford man through 'n through. But many of my camping friends drive Dodge or GM tow vehicles and all are happy. Bottom line......all three make exceptions tow vehicles. The competitive nature of the business has resulted in all three making improvements to out do the other guy. The power and handling offered make towing these monster Monties a breeze. As long as the vehicle is properly equipped and you take care of it.....it will take care of you. Your personal taste is what determines which brand you end up with. I've driven Chevrolet for my personal vehicle for most of my adult life. I can't say I've never had trouble but I have not had any major issues with them. My current TV is a 2015 Silverado 2500HD. LTZ. this is the first diesel I've owned and only have 17000 miles on it appro 3000 hooked to my Montana No issues yet. I have driven many fords and dodges for work trucks and had very little trouble with them also. I chose GM for the ride first, the engine brake second. And an employer discount third. I love my truck and will be trading it for a dully when I retire and will not have to drive it daily welcome aboard
