Tire prices

Got pricing yesterday for tire options to replace the GY Marathons that came with the 3455. I searched here and got 3 tires that seem to be ok with most of you folks (and Lonnie). Just wanted to check and see if the pricing is reasonable (all pricing is out the door):

Bridgestone Duravis 500R: $ 195ea installed and balanced
BFG Commercial TA : $ 158ea installed and balanced
GY G614 : $ 399ea installed and balanced

I have to weigh the rig to determine if I need or want the G rated tire (G614) or if one of the others is ok.

Thanks for the input.

I possible, check with Sam's Club for the 614's. I got them for $242 plus tax. Had them put on the rims and balanced at WalMart for $40.

I paid $275 each includes mount; balance; tax & traded my Missions in. Would have been $305 each, but got $30 credit for each Mission tire.

Was done at my local Goodyear dealer here in central WI.

I'm happy now........

As you stated a true weight will be telling but be sure you figure all of the stuff that will be added to the weight later. You know, all that stuff that completely fills the basement that you only rarely use (Don't ask how I know this!!)

When we bought our 614's in April of 2009 they were $215 AT SAM'S CLUB. They would not install due to lack of equipment for large units. We had Beaudry RV in Tucson install for $116.00 (mount & Balance). I doubt you can find that price today but I would look at Sam's if you decide to go with them. BTW: Goodyear Commercial in Tucson wanted $349 each and Discount Tire was $379 each. I had to join Sams, but I still saved a bundle over those guys.....The Discount tire guy said all tires from Sam's club were seconds, I just laughed at him.......AND they were only 6 months old at the time and the good part "MADE IN THE USA"!!!!!

I'm looking pretty seriously at the Michelin RIBS. Any comments or opinions on those?

The RIBS are all steel construction. Should give you great service and be very reliable. My Dad retired from Michelin, so naturally he says they are great. LOL!

Read the reviews at TireRack about the Ribs. This is part of a review that stands out;

There is one very real and negative problem with these tires (6) that will cut the tire mileage short......DRYROT....They are cracking on the sidewalls, not inspected the thread area yet.

Reviewer says he has 33,000 on his Michelin RIBS.

The pricing feedback from you folks sure indicates good prices at Sam's Club and installed and balanced at Walmart. I'll give them a call and report back.
Thanks

We love our Michelin Ribs, we have towed about 20,000 miles on them and they look like new.

I love my G614s, but $399 is outrageous. Keep shopping.

That is what I have seen advertised...also like that CW is always good on backing their products (my experience to date).

Well, that beats the 337.03 each out the door by a few dollars that I found at Grand American Tires. Sam's Club locally told me they can't get the G614. I'll give CW a call, Thanks

Steve,
The person at Sam's just gave you a load of crap. I got mine at Sam's last month. They do have to order them which took 3 days to get in. $242 plus tax.

I'll call Sam's again because CW just told me that they weren't aware of any sale on them and gave me a price of $364 out the door installed. Thanks

Steve,
Keep in mind I did have them installed and balanced at A local Walmart for $10 a tire. Sam's wanted $15.

Here's the latest. Apparently all of the Sam's Club in a particular area order their inventory from the same warehouse. The warehouse for our area (60 mile radius) does not carry the G614 at all. Thanks to Dave who sent me a pm, I called CW again and directed them to their 2011 Master Catalog which had a sale on the G614 out the door at 329.99 ea including lifetime tire rotation, disposal fee and pressure checks. That looks like the best local price for me. Thanks Dave
