Picking up our new fifth wheel

We purchased a new 2020 Montana 3121 last month in Virginia. We live in Orlando. We are planning on driving up Dec 1st to pick it up - we are very excited!! I have read a lot of info on this forum about the Montana fifth wheels. For anyone who has had the experience of picking up a brand new RV - are there certain things you need to look at to make sure they are right?? And working properly?? I want to make sure we totally check it out before we start driving home, since it's quite a long drive home...and I want to make sure we don't miss any possible trouble spots. Thanks so much!!

Welcome aboard. Others have developed PDI Checklists. There is one in this thread that might be helpful

There are PDI check sheets on this forum you can print out to help you out. You want to look and check everything inside and out side before you even sine or give them ant money. And make sure to check the air in the tires that always semis to get mist.

What part of Virginia? I'm in Va Beach and was just wondering? If I can help out in any way, I'd be glad to.

Congratulations! We just bought our 2020 HC331 back in June. I think the guy doing the walk through with me wanted to walk away!! He thought it was going to be a 20 minute walk. I spent over 2 hours with him. I was as thorough as I could be and still found a handful of things after my first shakedown camping trip for them to fix.

I bought ours at Lazy Days outside of Tampa. After our walkthrough, they got to work on all the issues I found and we picked it up the next afternoon. Driving to VA I would plan something similar if I were you. Heck ,I would have them hook up power and water and spend the night in it at their location and realy look it over. Then have them fix any items you found, while you stay in a hotel for the night. Easier to get them to fix everything, if they know they gotta do it before you leave with the camper!

So far, four trips later we are still thrilled with our purchase!

Use your phone and video your walk thru and the explanations of how things work. It's hard to remember it all latter and you can always go back to the video.

You need to look at EVERYTHING, and don't feel bad if you don't bring it home that day. I can almost guarantee that it won't be 100%.

Better yet - take a friend that can record the walk thru. I can't record and learn at the same time …

It might be beneficial to have a professional do an inspection BEFORE signing papers - for me, I had NO idea what to look for let alone trying to learn how to use it. Food For Thought

We bought ours new in September. Only problems that we have had is figuring out how to use it. This forum is the best place to learn. Congratulations on your new rig!

one thing for sure is all the books they give you will be so vague that you will be surprised at what isn't in them.

That is true. I have really not much out of the books. I have to read this forum, ask questions and watch YouTube.

This is the other issue for you and a new trailer. I hope you have a dealer near you that will be willing to take you in and do warranty work. You will have some issues with your new trailer.

enjoy your trailer.

Welcome and much happiness with your new rig ! We too have a 3121RL purchased new in June.

In our case the plug in for our shore power was loose inside the fitting, making it impossible to twist the plug to seat it. Dealer came out to our home the day we picked it up to fix that. Our first camping trip was luckily close to home as we found out the hard way that the pull handles for our two gray tanks were installed totally wrong at the factory. So while they were pointed out in the PDI and operation was explained, they were not in fact tested. This forced a early end to that trip and a haul of the unit back to our dealer with a full gray tank 1. Tank 1 pull handle was hooked to gray tank 2, tank 2 handle was hooked to nothing and came out in my hand the first time I went to pull it at the campsite. So I recommend you verify those two items. You will for sure have somethings wrong, so you will need to find a reliable local dealer that is willing to do warranty service for you as I'm guessing you dont want to haul her back to VA for service! Best of luck to you and I hope you have no issues..

Definitely use the extensive PDI list from this forum, and don't accept the unit until you are satisfied that all issues have been resolved, or will be (in writing) if parts are unavailable. Our unit stayed at the dealership for three days before everything was completed to our satisfaction, and it still had to go back for a couple of issues a month later.
