34 & Furnace Issue

Starting to snow in Willis and 34 degrees. Set furnace on auto and 70 but nothing happens. Propane is good. Will have to put fireplace on and maybe add an electric in the BR til I can try to diagnose it.

I think you need to turn off the Auto? (I think) If you have it on, the A/C fans run along with the furnace, unless I have it backwards.
As to the temp, on both my Montanas, the thermostat is off about 6 degrees. I kind of think if I set it to 70, it will keep the kitchen area around 64 or 65 degrees.
Try raising the setting...

The odd little breaker -- snap action model at2 type II appears to open but the small red LED below it does not come on unless I pull the breaker. If I reinsert it the furnace fan runs 45-60 seconds with no heat the shuts off until I reset the breaker by pulling it out and back in. This is what the type II does but I'm not sure why if it is opening, the LED does not light. I'm inserting a standard 15 amp d/c fuse. Cannot find the breaker online.

Same issue with standard fuse. It does not blow the fuse but runs about a minute fan only no heat then cuts off. Propane good. Have to do more tomorrow.

If your batteries are low the furnace won't light. Then the fan just runs and turns the rig into a giant refrigerator.

In furnace mode, the fan must be set to AUTO to avoid the A/C fans from running. But that is not your problem. Most likely causes are the Sail Switch or gas not igniting. The LED light on the control board will give you an idea of where the problem lies.

I uploaded a generic Atwood trouble shooting guide which will guide you through diagnostic process even if you are not super technical. It is entitled "RV Furnace Troubleshooting.pdf" and it can be found in the new "Files" function under the "Manual" category. Or you can get to it from Here

Hey Carl, that's going to help. The furnace manual does not include that document nor any trouble shooting guides. At least not in English :=\ Thanks bigtime!

Update. Just came back from the RV. Furnace now running and heating. 60 degrees in both BR & LR. Mystery still. I'll pull off that chrome cover on the outside to looksee and get model and serial #s when I have some daylight and a bit warmer. Prediction is for 45 today but at least the snow has stopped falling and the wind is down. Happy camping.......

probably air in the propane line and it took a few tries to get out the air. next time light your stove in the kitchen first to ensure you have gas flowing before you try and light the furnace

Thing is, the heater had been used only a week before. After the 2nd failure and reset by pulling the breaker, I did check the propane at the stove to insure that there was indeed still propane left and someone had not turned it off or stolen the bottles.

2016 Keystone Montana 3791 RD Thermostat and Relay

Looking for any and all information on Thermostat and Relay switch Box.
I have replaced the switch 2 times already and have not replaced the Relay Box.
I can only get it to work if I shut the switch off and wait till light goes out then turn on again.
I have another switch in bedroom, will turn on the AC,but will not turn on heat from that switch at all.
So before I go but another thermostat, I m looking to replace the relay box first, but do not know where to look for it..
Both condensers are on top of roof and it is the only place I have not looked at.
Would appreciate any and all help on this issue.
Everything else works all the way to the propane firing up to push heat through blower to ducts.
Thank you...

There are many reasons that the furnace will not light. Bad high limit switch or bad sail switch are the most common. Since you problem seems to be more intermittent, it could be either the control board on the furnace or the flame sense. For either of there, the LED on the control board show flash indicating which the problem may be.

3 flashes indicate that the flame was not detected. This could be caused be either problem.

The diagnostic guide is real helpful. It helped me narrow down issues I had with m furnace. In my case, it was a hard fail when not on shore power. I replaced the control board with a dinosaur electronics replacement and problem fixed.

Thank You Sir for your info.I am not savvy to the high limit switch or sail switch. What I do know is they will work, flames ignite to use heater but within the switch it wont kick on immediately when I raise the temperature to 80 degrees and it is 50 in Unit,it wont kick on until I turn thermostat off, then turn back on. So I am puzzled.I have a new relay box that came with thermostat, but not sure where it is located to change it out. There are no condensers inside the Unit, just vents. Both AC units are on top of roof.
So I am at a loss.I cant move the unit to repair, due to a permanent homestead. So I am doing all my own work, even though it is still under warranty.
It only happens when its cold out ..lol

More info. This intermittent issue reoccurred this morning. Seems that after heavy rain is when it manifest itself. Took off some more covers. Found water behind first cover and appears to be dripping from combustion chamber. Loosened up the gas valve to manifold, more water ran out. Looks to be coming from big black blower wheel area and running to chamber where igniter and burner assembly reside. Not sure how rain water could get to the area unless sucked in. The discharge and primary air come from the same single vent. Water? Ideas?

Just saw this post and thanks Carl for posting the Trouble Shooting Guide. I did not have this one either so it will be printed out and go into the file folder in the Monte for future reference.

I had the same with a 2016 Cougar. Atwood provided a list of mobile techs, paid the service call and he did all diagnostics, found nothing but blew 2 more 15 amp fuses. He called their tech ~ same number as I called ~~ different tech than I talked to. He was told NOT to put a 20 amp in but to use a slow burn 15 amp fuse. Found them online and Atwood sent 2 as well. Finding them locally was impossible (Sarasota FL at the time).

i has a similar problem wit my furnace it took me a while to find that when the shower in the master bedroom was used the furnace would cycle many times and not start. i would turn thermostat off then back on and some times i would have to do it multiple times. finally i found that the valve for the shower had a small crack in it and the water would leak down the inner wall and drip on the circuit board just inside the main cover for the furnace. i put in a new valve for the shower and haven't had the problem since. didn't get all the water out of that valve when i winterized it. hope this helps
