Dish using the Hopper in the RV

I have the Dish Traveler Dish on the roof with 3 LMBs I am currently using two 211Z boxes. My question is can I use the Hopper with a Joey with this setup? If so is there a problem with getting Dish to change the service zip code when I change locations? Is anyone doing this who can give me some guidance. Thanks.

If you use Dish for My RV, just call them and ask them to change your service to whatever location you are in. If you are just using your home Dish account, know it will mess up the ones at your house. When we travelled last summer, I only had it changed once. The rest of the time, I never changed it again and just used the antenna for local channels.

We have had the Hopper and one Joey and a traveler antenna in our rig for almost two years now. We full time so there isn't a problem when we call in to change locations. One thing to do is ask for an RV tech when you call in to change and you may not have an issue.

Two weeks ago I had my VIP722 upgraded to the new Hopper3 (16 tuner) and it is great but I use a standard 1000.2 dish on a surveyors tripod and they had to install a new Hybrid EA LNBF that the new Hopper3 must have so the technician said. I believe I read on the Escapees Forum that a Traveler must be modified in some way in order to be used with the Hopper3 but not sure about the older Hoppers/Joeys. Installation wiring is different for the H3 than for the early Hoppers.

There are a couple of members on the Escapees Forum that are very knowledgeable about the Dish Network systems. Check it out.

We are full timers and have no problem getting Dish to change our service address to get locals. If we are setting up for a 1-2 day stay I just use the batwing for locals and route them through the Dish receiver so they appear on the guide and can be recorded if we like. To get our service dress changed we find it easier to sign in to their website and chat instead of calling

No trouble at all. You will need a Dish Solo Node installed. It takes 2 coax inputs from the Traveler Dish and feeds a single coax to the input side of the Hopper. As far as the Joey, you can do wired, second output of the Solo Node or a wireless Joey.

Here is the wired diagram:
http://www.winegard.com/kbase/upload...6%20Hopper.pdf

Solo Node can be purchased from a variety of vendors.

As far as changing address for locals, I NEVER call. I login to my account, choose support, select chat with Technical support (not customer service), give them the new local address and they send the signal. Takes only a few seconds that way and you don't run into someone that asks why. The signal takes about 10 minutes sometime to populate your locals.

Hope that helps.

If you're going to do your install this way be sure to get an old style Hopper. DO NOT get the latest version that recently came out (Hopper3). THIS INSTALL WILL NOT WORK.

David and Sharon are correct. The hopper3 supports 16 channels at once. Here is a good discussion on the changes if you windup with the 3.

Thank you brenko and all. I found out that I have to buy the upgrade $300.00 for the Hopper and $50.00 for the joey. That is for the older Hopper so I will have to get approval from DW

Does not necessarily have to cost anything!

If you aren't still under contract with Dish call them and ask what you need to do to discontinue service and they will likely transfer you to a "retention specialist". Explain to the RS that you are no longer happy with your equipment and want to upgrade but don't want to have to pay for it. Considering a change to Directv in order to get better equipment. They will negotiate with you but have in mind what will make you happy BEFORE making the call.

My recent upgrade from a VIP722 DVR to the Hopper3 did not cost anything for the receiver and they brought it out and installed it for free too. BTW I did not have to enter a new contract and can terminate service at any time. I won't go into detail about it but I also know for a fact that they will negotiate bill credits of $10-20 monthly for up to 20 months. You might be surprised what they will do for you if only you are RESPECTFUL but FIRM while talking with them.

You'd need a portable with 3LMB's. I'm not sure if there's one out there.

Dpusey,
No, portables will not work with any of the Hoppers. They are designed to work with a 211

How do you route you locals though Dish and have them display on the menu?

We call Dish each time we move and change our service address and then the locals come thru on the menu. They don't seem to mind and it doesn't bother anything else for us. We've changed 4 times in 5 days before. Our billing is paperless so that isn't affected. You want to call a technition, however, because the call service folks in Bangladesh or were every don't understand RV's and will be trying to send out service people to set you up.

Depends on which receiver. I used it on my previous VIP722 with no adapter but the HOPPER3 requires a $30 adapter I haven't purchased yet. I'm not sure if available for other models as these are all I've had.

You connect your batwing to the receiver and do a receiver scan for locals your batwing recognizes and they are added to your Guide with a yellow highlight. You can then select whichever you want for live viewing or recording.

Ok update, I got the ok from the boss DW. I have ordered the Hopper-2 and a Joey from a company on Amazon. Dish gave me a $50.00 credit so the whole cost is $210.00. I am happy with this, now all that is left is for the units to arrive and for me to install. I have the old setup on sale here and other places. If they don't sell now they will in the fall when the snow birds descend on Lake Havasu. Again thank you all for the great information and guidance. I just love this forum.

Ok I just got,the Hopper and Joye up and running. Got to love it. Long story, the first Hopper was defective it would not turn on so they shipped me another. Great company to work with. After talking to Dish Tech it is now working as it should be. I am one happy camper. Thanks for all the great help and information.

I ordered an adapter and hooked it up 2 days ago. Works great with the Hopper3.
