Water Heater Question
When I am on AC and the electric water heater is in service I can't start the propane water heater until the water temp is low enough to call for heating. In other words it appears that the propane heater won't even ignite as long as the hot water temperature is above the thermostat setting. If the water temp has fallen low enough that it is caling for heating then I can light the propane heater and it will cut in whether the AC breaker is closed or not. Is this the way it is suppose to work?

Neither the propane nor the electric will "kick in" until the low temperature setting of the water heater thermostat is reached. The advantage of having both on is faster "recovery" time. With both on at the same time, the H20 will heat up to the shut off point faster.

Tom & Sherry, I agree with the others this is how it works. However, one thing to keep in mind is that all you need to do is turn on the switch and forget it. It will ignite when needed and shut off when not needed. If yours is not doing this let us know and we'll try to help you figure it out.
