2005 - 3650 RK
Hi All,
I'm new here and have a few questions. My wife and I are in the process of purchasing a 2005 3650RK to replace our 28 ft travel trailer. I have been trying to read as much of the fourms on this list as I can. One thing that I came across is the broken frame at the pin box issue. Most of what I have read has not struck me as out of the ordinary but when I came across this it has me wondering if I am making a mistake buying a Montaina. Should I be concerned about this ? It seems like Keystone has made good in all these cases but it has to be a major pain in the butt.

It is my belief based on the postings that this is an issue with only a very low percentage of the Montanas. While it is a problem for those who experience it, Keystone steps up to the plate to make it right. Unless they are absolute idiots, they are also doing appropriate changes to the manufacturing process to address this issue. I do have reasonable confidence in Keystone without expecting perfection. I do fully expect correction. I don't believe your concern here is any greater than it would be for any other manufacturer and less than most.

Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling it was an isolated thing.
While I'm at it I was wondering how my 2005 F-350 PSD is going to pull this trailer. I figure it will weight in at around 14k . Do any of the power enhancer products work better than the others ? I'm still under warranty so the Banks kit is out.

George,
We just got our 3650RK 2 weeks ago... took it to north Arkansas for our first trip (1000 miles round trip), towed great with my F-250 PSD. We have had a 30' TT before, their is no comparison - size/ride! I am planning on putting a slider under the x-16 5th. I am not able to turn/back as sharp as I would like with the short box truck. I am also thinking about the POWERCHIPS product for the PSD... not because I think I need it, but only because I like gadgets like that. If it helps MPG, that would be great. Got 10.3 MPG on the Arkansas trip, not too bad.

George--
Welcome to the forum. I am sure that you have already found it to be an extremely valuable information resource. I am continually amazed and reassured by the wealth of information and experience that is freely shared here.
With that said, I don't have any expertise on the specific Montana model you are considering, but I have over 7700 miles of experience towing our Montana 3475RL with our Ford F-350 PowerStroke Turbo Diesel pickup. It pulls, handles, and stops so well I don't see a need to consider adding any enhancement to the truck. Your needs may differ, but I would suggest that you try the stock truck with the Montana before going to the expense and warranty issues associated with aftermarket upgrades.
By the way, our unit weighs around 12,820 when traveling.
Good luck with your acquisition.

We had ours fixed at the factory in May. It had been that way for about a year and didn't get any worse. They welded in additonal bracing and I'm satisfied with the fix. It has been a small percentage, as mentioned above, and from what I gathered at the factory it has been addressed. I'd be surprised if the newer ones ever develop this problem. But that's just an educated guess on my part at this point. We're on our second Montana and would buy another if we had the need (and the dollars).
