electric wiring[110]

We have a 3295[2003] disappointed in the wiring in the kitchen, don't understand why they wouldn't use at least 14 ga. wire and 20 amp breaker .Do i have to rewire the fireplace or?

Minkid,
Yes, you are correct, we all have been voicing our displeasure about this.
I would think the Bean Counters have had the say in this type of action on our Montana's.
It is pretty hard to correct this situation, but there are ways.
Look under the Modifications section, a few days ago, I got some extra power by splitting off the microwave circuit.
Don't increase the breaker size, from your wording, I know you are more knowledgeable than that.
Welcome to the Forum.

You can't use 14 gauge wire on 20 amp breaker. Against code.

Sounds like somebody already put a bigger breaker in than they should have!

I don't understand why Montana uses 14 ga. wire on the air conditioning with 20 amp breaker if it does not meet code.

Perhaps it's a thin jacketed 12AWG, or the trailer manufacturing code set differs from the NEC. I don't know.

I just want to clarify that the National Electric Codes specify that a 20 Amp circuit requires 12 AWG wiring. A 15 Amp circuit should be wired with 14 AWG wiring. If you have any circuits with a 20 Amp breaker and 14 AWG wiring you need to replace the breaker with a 15 Amp breaker. This way the wiring is protected from over heating and possible fire from too much current flow. If you need a 20 Amp circuit then you should upgrade the wiring on that circuit to 12 AWG.

I agree Lamar - it does seem strange thay Keystone would put 14AWG for the AC. I think it's probably actually 12AWG on Fulltimer's rig.

Agree, I was reading between the lines. Probably had a heater plugged into the same circuit as the fireplace, (along with other loads), the breaker blew and he was just venting, (as we all have).

Sorry guys, i don't just vent and i looked at the wiring to the air conditioning it says 14 ga. on the wire, has a 20 amp breaker.I agree ,it should be heavier wire, the wire to the kitchen is definitly lighter then 14 ga,that was my concern.Thought i'd let you know a little bit about me.I have been in the mobile home service since 1973[all phases]. Have also done some rv repair work.
Thanks for all the replys, enjoy this site very much!

Checked mine when I first got the rig because I was having some electrical problems. Wiring is up to code in mine. You really should either change the breaker or wiring. Or better yet get the dealer to fix the wiring at Keystone's expense. Good luck.

Should definitely get Keystone involved, that wiring should not have passed inspection!
