S637 Sailuns under 110# pressure?

I have a 3000RK Montana with 80 psi rims. Can I put the S637 Sailuns on my trailer and run 80 psi without ruining tires? My trailer is carrying about 9760# on the axles. GVW of trailer is 14,220. These seem to be the popular tire to use and are a good price. Can't justify the Michelin tires again because of price. Not sure which other tires to go with.

Sailun has a chart for psi/weight down to 80 psi. Send them an email and it may work for you.

The chart will show you can inflate to 80 PSI but I would go to the next step and buy new 110 PSI wheels.

Yes it will not hurt your tires you just reduce the load ratings. Even with the same load rating they are a much safer tire than the Marathons and like tires.

How does one know what the rim PSI specs are? My 2018 Montana 3730 FL came with Saliuns and I have been running 100 PSI cold. I never considered the rim specs - where do I find that info?

I believe it is stamped on the inside of the rims.

Stamped on the backside. New Montana and HC come with 110 wheels.

So if I have a 2018 3791RD I should inflate to 110 PSI? It appeared CW set them at 90PSI but that was before I loaded our belongings to the RV. So far we have only pulled it to campgrouds within 20 miles of purchase but will be travelling farther soon.

At the tire seminar we have at the fall rally put on by the tire vendor they have indicated the we should inflate our tires to the max load. We do keep out G614,s at 110psi.

I'll put 11,000 - 16,000 miles on Sailuns every year under my HC at about 14,000. I keep them at 100 psi cold. Never a problem.

A moderator was kind enough to post the Sailun chart under forum Montana Tires. Look for Sailun ST Load Inflation Chart.pdf.

If the chart shows 80psi will carry the load on the axles, go for it.

A boondocking friend has Sailun tires on stock 80# wheels on an 06 3400rl. He has run them at the max wheel rating and is having significant wear on the shoulders of the tread face, inside and outside edges, front and back axles. His rig is around 13,500 axle weight. He will be upgrading rims. Classic overloaded under inflated scenario.

At one time ,and according to reports on this forum, the rims on my 2008 3400RL were recertified to 110 psi, and some members were even sent stickers to put on their rims. My rims had no markings for weight or psi.

After reading those reports , I had the G614's installed. Not long after the manufacturer changed their minds , and went back to the 80 psi rating. No idea why they changed their minds, but I'm guessing the liability or whatever. Anyway I ran those G614's for 6.5 years at 95-100 psi without issue.

I now have the Sailuns on the same rims, and run them the same 95-100 psi. No way saying to run those 80 psi rims he has at anything other then the 80 psi, but at one time my rims were thought to be okay for 110 psi. I have no worries about mine after running them for nearly 8 years at the psi I do. The rims now going on their eleventh year , and now the third set of tires on them.

If he has 13500lbs on the axles only, divided by four tires, that's 3375lbs a tire. Per the Sailun chart, he can get 3640lbs at 80psi, so he's actually slightly overinflated. This is very important as many members use the chart, especially when using 80psi wheels. I wonder if frequent boon-docking might be causing more tire scrubbing rather than underinflation?

I keep my tires at 110 psi. Heat is the biggest enemy of tires.I doubt anyone actually wears out there tires . The only advantage to less than 110 psi is ride. I would rather have a rougher ride than heat build up and cost me an tire failure. If traveling in weather less than 90 degrees then less air may be ok but your tires have less friction at 110 psi and the tires don't plant themselves to the ground as much when cornering.There is probably no right or wrong answer on this subject but most importantly just having G rated tires.

I have the 235/85 Sailuns, not the 235/80. The rating is 320# higher per tire. I run them at 100. Even on hot pavement they do not warm up much or gain very much PSI on a 14,000# 5er.

Yes, 95-100 has worked for me for the past eight years with right around 13,500.
Having no tire monitors for the trailer, no idea how much psi they gain, but my truck will gain about 10 psi when towing.

After following these posts on the Saliun tires I had Les Schwab put on the tires today and removed the Tow Max. The Tow Max looked new and had very little use on them as I was strictly a summer traveler. As I just retired last week after 36 years as a LEO. It is time to try the snowbird experience. Yes I have a 2014 HC and it maybe over kill but I don’t want to be sitting on the side of the road with a bunch of damage. Thanks to all for the education on tires the last couple of years!

Certainly NOT overkill. My HC weighs more than some Montana models. Keystone knows and is why HC arrives with 110 psi approved wheels now for several years.
