Aux fuel tanks
Looking at a TrailFX 37 gallon fuel tank for my F350. The web site shows a height of 19" which will fit BELOW the bed rails. My question is: does that measurement include the filler tube/cap? I've fallen for these misconceptions before, where the dimensions are for the main body of the item, not the peripherals.
Looking at other options also.
Thanks,
KT

Can't you call the manufacture? If not PM me and I will get you the number for the manufacturer I bought from here in AZ. You can call and talk to the owner. He will custom make a tank for you any size you want.

The lid shouldn't matter that much. If you jack knife your rv enough to hit the lid then you are just about into the cab. My tank is flush with bed and my filler tube sticks up about 3'' and have never even come close to hitting the lid. You need a minimum of 6'' clearance between bed and rv anyhow and i have 8''. If this tank is already below the bed rails then you shouldn't have any problem what so ever.

We considered a 37 gallon fuel tank early on. That would have given us 87 gallons of fuel with a average range of 800 plus miles There was a company in Havasu city,Az that had them at a reasonable price. Thinking about it we stopped about every 200 miles or so for a leg stretch and fueled while stopped. The weight of diesel varies a bit but 7 Pounds per gallon is the figure used,That is a extra 259 pounds plus the weight of the tank. The tanks and installation are not cheap. We would have to do a lot of miles and a lot gallons of fuel savings to make it work. It was just not a good investment for us. It can be for others.

Short box is a different story our OEM tank will hold 40 gallons for about a 400 mile range. We can not go 400 miles without a stop.

Hi All:
We had a Titan tank installed on our first 2005 F350 because we got tired of stopping for fuel. When we got our 2011 F350 the first thing we did was install a Titan fuel tank. Would not be without the extra capability. We are going on 14 years full timing in our 2013 Montana 3800RE. So far 22 states and 5 provinces, so we have a bit more territory to cover yet. Happy trails to all.

Totally agree, Titan is the way to go. It is a 55 gallon tank on my long bed dually Ram 3500. So now we never have to fill up while being attached to our 5ver! We spent the extra money and got the protection shield that goes under it, just in case road debris were to hit it, since it is about 1-2" lower than the stock OEM 32 gallon tank. I did not want to give up my 8 foot bed and have some fuel tank in the way all the time.

I bought a DeeZee aluminum 40 gallon and bought their kit for plumbing into filler tube. It sits low enough for me to still use my tonneau cover while unhooked. Wouldn’t be without it, we hit Rock Springs WY and the whole town was without power and couldn’t get fuel for an estimated 4-6 hours, thank goodness we had plenty onboard.

I have the RDS 60 gal. fuel tank with gravity feed. Like vipermanden i never stop to fuel with the rv attached. I can stay away from the over inflated truck stops. This stops me from constantly having to look for fuel after just filling up. This is one option that can actually pay for itself with fuel savings and you can't beat the convenience.

Fuel tanks
I got a 60 gallon tool/fuel box that set completely inside the bed of the truck.
Brian at KSH in Lake Havasu Arizona custom made it for less then the prices I have heard on the forum. His customer service is unbleavable. d

We put a DeeZee 36 gal tank in our longbed 3500. From Amazon with Prime, was just under $400.00 year or so ago. I installed myself; not a hard job at all. Just flush w/top of rail and toolbox. Like others, I don't hunt for fuel with 5er attached. Only time I go to a truck stop is for DEF. When you are filling up 50-60 or more gallons, a few cents/gallon makes a difference.

I was tired of having to get into busy truck stops, paying for interstate fuel and tired of wondering where to get fuel, so I ended up installing a 51 gallon in bed tank. Now with 88G of fuel, I can pick and choose where I get fuel and get into towns and grocery store fuel centers that usually have much cheaper fuel than the stations on the interstate.

I also went with KSH, and Brian is great to work with. Did 30 gals. In bed, I install my own, but friend had Brian install theirs and is was very reasonable. 30 gals only takes up about 8" in the bed and is just right to switch over when low light comes on, can't over fill. Been with frienda that had to back track to find fuel when they figured their fuel range wrong. I try to keep spare tank fuel all the time in case of emergency.

I was thinking about a tank in the bed but I found out I can get a fuel tank under the truck to replace the factory tank which will get me about 18 more gallons which would be more than enough to avoid truck stops and it won’t take away bed space which I can use for more items , look into transfer flow

Six Fuel tank.
Hi all,
I just installed the Trans-Flow Aux tank in my 2016 Chevy. Dually Diesel. 72 gallons and completely below the bed rail. This tank is one of the few that are DOT legal in every state. There is no getting out to pump fuel down to the main tank. It transfers it automatically. Both the main tank and the Aux tank go down together. The factory fuel gage still works. There is a digital display Velcroed onto the dash, showing fuel in both factory and Aux tank. It transfers as needed. I do nothing. The tank is a bit pricy but I feel worth it. I now have 108 gal of fuel. That takes the stress out of looking for fuel at an half empty tank. Trans-Flow makes many tanks for every budget.
Best of luck.
Randy E
