DODGE RECALL QUESTION

It appears that these recalls are only for the 4-wheel drive trucks.

I have a 2-wheel drive 2008 RAM. So I am not a part of this recall.

Is that correct??

This recall doesn't mention 2x4 or 4x4, call Chrysler 1-800-853-1403 and give your vin. they will tell you for sure. I think its all trucks.

From talking to dealers, and reading my recall, I think it's all of them also.

Took mine to dealer and after a 2 minute inspection in the service lot they told me that it did not need anything. I required them to give me paperwork proving I had been there and what they told me.

I asked how they could tell just by looking under the front of the truck and was told that the ones that needed the new parts had U-bolts on the tie rod.

It's my understanding that the older trucks only need to be inspected to see if the tie rod assembly had been replaced with the newer "problem" model.

Just as a FYI, I called the phone number Scott-Pattie posted and gave them my VIN number. Based on that my 2008 RAM is not part of the recall.

I asked if the recall was only 4-wheel drives (mine is 2-wheel drive ). They said most of the RAMs recalled are but could not rule out some 2-wheel drives.

From my research the N49 recall is only on 4x4 vehicles and all vehicles must have the cross link with 2 tie rod ends replaced. Ram is allotting one part per week per dealer.

MY dealership said if my truck had not been aligned, the left tie rod end would be in the proper orientation and the possibility of failure was very low.

If the vehicle has been aligned, the socket part of the tie rod end is not at a 90 degree angle to the tapered shaft, when the vehicle is put in a full lock turn and backing it is possible the joint could fail.

At least this is what I was told by my dealer. I am #80 on the list, so I am looking at waiting 80 weeks for my parts to come in...

Was at the local dealer today. Several came in and were inspected while I was there and they showed me a picture of what they were looking for since my truck wasn't with me. They never asked before they went out to look if the truck was 4x4 or not. What they were looking for is (not a mechanic here so terminology my not be 100%) whether the stabilizer is attached with two U bolts or bolted directly to the tie rod. If it has the two U bolts that's the one that has to be replaced.

I called dealer when notice came, they ordered the part, said will take a couple months for part to come. I went in for oil change& state inspection yesterday and asked that they check it to make sure its safe to tow with. Said it looked & felt great, but will replace anyway when part comes.

If you go to the Dodge Ram web page you can set up an owners site where it will give you all the info on your truck. It will tell you on that page if your truck is in the recall too. I will warn you they make a good truck but a lousey web page, it's slow as molasses....

I got lucky (sic)... my dealer (that I bought the truck from) has the parts in stock and I have an appointment to get it repaired on Feb 17th. I'll feel better when it's done. So far, I've had no indications that anything is amiss.

I took my truck by BertOgdenJr Dodge in Harlingen a couple weeks ago. They ordered the parts and installed them today. I told the service writer that I planned on getting new tires. He said after I get the tires, bring it back and they will check the alignment again. I am a happy camper

Still waiting in Yuma. They got six sets one week and are now back to getting one set a week.

Dick, that tie rod assembly is a pretty good size chunk of metal. The tech who worked on my truck told me only heard about one breaking. He says cramping the steering agains the stop caused it to fracture

Why would you need to re-align after putting tires on? IF they aligned it after installing the new parts it should stay in the same alignment.

Something does not sound right. Maybe they just bolted the new parts on and did not align it. When you got your truck back was there a copy of the readings from the alignment machine? I believe the warranty repair order needs to have a copy attached to it.

As tight as Fiat is paying for warranty claims, who is going to pay for the 2nd alignment? Who is paying the tech for doing the work twice?

That's the problem. What do you think happens when I take the truck down the trails at KOFA the jeeps seldom use. Besides getting a lot of scratches down the sides that is.

My recall was done yesterday. They installed a new tie rod assembly that extends from tire to tire. They also did the alignment. The service writer showed me the alignment printout for my truck. It drives great!
