Tires on 3000RK

Are the marathon tire problems limited to any paticular models?

Weight is the issue with the Marathons. Based on the track record of the tire, and potential damage from a blowout, a gamble for any Montana.

No, they will blow up on any model. They are equal opportunity pieces of crap.

They are not even unique to Montanas, read any of the other RV Forums and you will see reports of problems unless you have a lite weight hybred unit, then you might be OK, but I wouldn't bet the house (on wheels) on it.

I think it is a combination of weight and speed traveled. Maybe 30 years ago when lots of states the max speed was 55 maybe they were ok. But at todays speeds of 65+, yes some of us travel at 65, I don't think they hold up. There are sooooo many reports of these tires blowing up and destroying RV's I find it hard to believe there has not been a class act suit. Sad thing is that the tire companies as well as Keystone can remedy the problem. Either manufacture better quality tires or if they don't Montana needs to change to LT or G rated tires. But both would cost a little more and they are afraid it would affect sales. They don't seem to understand that the people buying these RV's have the money and would most likely be willing to pay the extra couple hundred dollars for better tires. I changed the brand new Marathons on my 3000rk out for BFG's which are now changed out for Michelins because of the recall. I felt it was a small price to pay to try and save my trailer and avoid all the hassle of fighting with Goodyear to get it fixed. As has been said it is not if they will blow but just when will it happen.

I had them on our 2010 3000RK and got rid of them after my first flat. The tire separated and blew a hole on the inside of the tire. No damage luckily, and we replaced all tires that same day with Michelins.

I may be on borrowed time, I have over 14,000 miles on ours.
Only problem was running over a truck mud flap and having two flats
which were plugged and patched 14,000 miles ago.
We just returned from A trip to eastern Oregon where temps were 80+.
I drive 60 to 65 mph but occasionally do 70.

I'm sorry to say this, but I wouldn't run on Marathons that have been patched ever. If you read up on the Marathons you will also note that you are driving faster than the manufacturer says you should. You've been lucky so far, but the odds are against you.

The Marathons are limited only when put on an RV, they do fine sitting in the garage. Kind of like the used car warranty, "guaranteed for 10 years and 100,000 miles or until it leaves the lot, whichever comes first.
